Finally, there is a road trip about “us” fabulously 40 and beyond.

boneville movie review

When Arvilla (Jessica Lang) promised her late husband of twenty years that she’ll cremate and scatter his ashes, she didn’t expect to deliver that promise so soon, nor did she anticipated to have a fight with her stepdaughter, a Santa Barbara socialite played by Christine Baranski.

Since the death of her husband, the only anchor to stability in her life are her two long time girlfriends, played by Kathy Bates and Joan Allen.

Arvilla’s stepdaughter demands that the ashes of her late husband need to be brought back to Santa Barbara or else she will take away her house. Arvilla convinces her girlfriends to take a trip with her to deliver the urn personally to Santa Barbara.

The girlfriends expecting a flight are surprised when Arvilla pulls in their driveway in her late husbands 66 Ponital Bonneville convertible. She hijacks her girlfriends on a reluctant road trip through the memory lane that her and her late husband shared.

Watching three veteran actresses express such collective warmth and energy through their performances is uplifting. Being reminded of the importance of girlfriends in our life is precious.
