Hair color often looks fantastic the day we visit our hairdresser. Coming out of the salon after a color treatment, with glossy, beautifully finished and freshly washed locks makes us instantly feel and look younger. The problem is – how do you keep it looking salon fresh?

Natural re-growth and exposure to light and sun soon takes its toll on your beautiful head-turning color. Here are five practical tips to keep your hair color looking good between treatments:

1. Enhancing Color Conditioner.

Use a color enhancing conditioner to revive the original color, aim for a shade as close as possible to your colored hair – don’t go darker as this may ‘muddy’ your highlights and flatten the overall look.

2. Touch up your roots.

You should only apply color to your roots and work through the rest of your hair towards the ends for just a few minutes before rinsing. Applying hair color all over your head will overload the ends and leave them brittle, dry and over-treated.

3. Hair color is quickly effected by minerals in hard water.

Use a deep cleansing or ‘clarifying shampoo’ every few washes – especially if you live in an area where the water is hard. This will prevent UV light from destroying your hair color. Alterna Life Solutions Clarifying Shampoo Condition several times a week for the most effective results.

4. Forget the pool!

Hair color and pool chemicals just don’t mix. Swimming in the sea can be a problem too since salt dehydrates and washes out your color. So -if you do swim make sure to cover your hair in protective spray. Try Korres Red Vine Year-Round Hair Sun Protection which protects your hair from UV light and chlorine/salt damage.

These simple tips should keep your hair color as vibrant and glossy as the day you walked out from your hairdresser.

Mix 1 part vinegar with 3 parts water pour over your wet hair. This will lock in color like when you do easter eggs. You can shampoo and condition after.. Also this works best when you do for first shampoo after new color. Been doing hair 26 or 27 years.
