Learning how to understand our own intelligence can move us way ahead of our own game.
“Three years ago I listened to a lecture on cognition that changed the way I think about intelligence. This is the crux. There are two types of cognition. The first is normal cognition. This is the ability to retrieve knowledge from memory. When you are asked a question on a test and produce an answer, that’s a display of cognitive ability. The second type of cognition is metacognition; the ability to know whether or not you know .
So very true. It is so important that people act with confidence about what they truly know and are willing to find the information to anthing they are not sure of. What does it hurt to tell someone, “Hey, I don’t know the answer off the top, but I will find out for you.” Nothing. In fact, you manage to gain more respect by doing so.
I have been the “go to” person for a number of issues over the years. Why? Because I always take the time to find out the correct answer if I don’t know it. Not only have I gained a lot of respect, but I have greatly increased my knowledge.
Definitely a great article for women of all ages.
