KIDS BOOK
I had a fun surprise in the mail the other day-I received 2 children's books for review! The reason they were a surprise is that both of these very cute pictures books were written and illustrated by a very special 7 year old named Dalton James
First a bit about the author. As I mentioned, he's 7! According to the information sent to me with the books Dalton James is an extremely precocious, bright and active young man who enjoys learning, reading and (obviously) writing books. He's already a first degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. It didn't have to be mentioned but both of his parents are extremely proud of his and his accomplishments. His first book is "The Sneakiest Pirates".
Dalton has written an engaging story about a little boy and his dad-Pirate Pete and Scurvy James, respectively. The name of the book is "The Sneakiest Pirate". Together they decide to set sail on the high seas to find treasures that belonged to a king but stolen by another pirate named Peg Leg Chuck, who doesn't have a peg leg, but a hook hand instead. Pete and James have quite a fun adventure in their little row boat.
At the end, both pirates decide that being rich and famous is what they now want to be and with that go on to become rock stars. This makes the second in what is sure to be a series-this one entitled
"The Heroes of Googley Woogley"
. The fun part of this-is that on the first page our father-son duo change their minds and become astronauts. They go deep into outer space and have another fun adventure.
Dalton has a wonderful imagination and knows how to put it down on paper to be interesting to kids. The pictures are cute, the story short and perfect for those of us who want to read a complete book before attention spans wander.
As a former pre-school teacher and grandma of two little boys-I can hope that these books will delight many little readers.
And now, I'm going to go make a reading date with my grandsons!
