This Just Might Be the Best Tan

By Yana Berlin

Have you heard the bad news???? Sun is BAD for you, the good news is there is an alternative??

you can have that golden glow all year long. You can achieve a perfect tan without the damage to your skin.

Looking to get that golden glow all year long?

Here are some tips on that perfect tan that is UV free.

sun

1. Find a hidden spot to test the color and shade of your new  product. Wait 24 hours to make sure there is no allergic reaction.

2. Exfoliating gently will allow your self tanning lotion Self-Tanning Lotion to adhere to your smooth skin.

3. Do not use any moisturizing lotions on the day of the application. 4. To avoid looking like an orange, or worse having stains, wash your hands every five minutes when applying any self-tanning lotion.  Don't neglect to wash your fingernails and between the fingers.  You can also use latex gloves during the application.

5. Be careful applying tanner to you knees, ankles, elbows and feet.

The skin is thicker in these areas and tends to soak up more of the color.  Apply much lighter layer of lotion.

6. Keep in mind that some self-tanners tend to stain clothing, towels and sheets.

7. If you don't like the end result, don't give up, try a different brand, you will find the formula that works for you.

8. Even though you look like you've been tanning for days, keep in mind your tan isn't real and you need sun screen to protect your skin.

Now all you have to do is enjoy your tan all year around.

    • I had been tanning for years!  Indoors and out. With little time on my hands being a business owner of two businesses I opted for the tanning beds/Mystic booths the past couple of years.

That is until I saw this “leather” looking woman coming out of the tanning salon that was probably my age! My husband was with me and commented on how unattractive the “leather skin” look was.  I knew that I had to stop! It wasn’t easy.  It was really hard when I would go out and see women with a glowing beautiful tan.  They would just seem to glow.  I would feel so unattractive and blah!

Then I found a solution! I have been using Mystic Tan Sunless Tanning Spray Face & Body and every so often I will use Sephora’s tinted bronzing mist which is a little less expensive.  After I shower I dry off and jump right back into the shower and spray.  When I get out of the shower I use a sponge painting brush from the dollar store to make sure to prevent streaking. I also have the comfort of walking around naked in my own home to allow to dry, not like at the tanning salons where you have to put your clothes right back on and drive home.

I have had great results! I have saved time and money with the use of at home self-tanning products.  It used to take me 10 minutes to drive to the salon and then whether I mystic tanned or used a bed I would be away from my desk at least an hour.  Unlimited Mystic tanning at the salon was cost $38.88 a month and unlimited use of the tanning beds cost $68.88 a month.  If I did no go regularly I would feel guilty!

Then I decided to combine them together so I wouldn’t be in the beds all of the time at a wopping $88.88 a month.  I still found myself in the beds all of the time because I hated the sticky feeling once I would get out of the Mystic booth having to put my clothing back on.

So I was spending $88.88 a month for both services. I felt so guilty with the economy the way it is and I dreaded going!  I would lay in the bed thinking of all of the things that I should be doing instead of self baking and ruining my skin.  I always left the mystic booths feeling so sticky and gross.  I left the tanning beds smelling like burnt skin knowing that in the long run this would ruin my skin!

Now it cost me $38.00 for the Mystic Sunless Tanning Spray Face & Body and $12.00 for the Sephora Tinted Bronzing Mist.  These will last me over three months and the work beautifully in the comfort of my own home!

      Anyone else?

I’m Italian/Irish, and have a light olive skin.  For years, I thought I needed to be tan to look good.  I have completely turned that around.  In fact, I think my skin is beautiful the way Nature intended it to be and no longer want to lay out and bake to make myself look different.

I do like a light, natural-looking sunless tanner.  And when I use it I mix it with a moisturizer and it really looks good.  It complements my skin rather than making it different.  When I go out at night I use a spray on bronzer that’s very sheer and with just a touch of shimmer.  It also complements my skin without a drastic change.

So, the one thing I disagree with here is the application of moisturizer with a sunless product.  I don’t have dry skin at all.  But, there is something about a sunless tanning lotion that will make my skin dryer if I don’t use a moisturizer.

And, actually, companies such as Murad suggest mixing their body lotions with a sunless tanning cream or bronzer.  I think it works out well.

    • I love being tan!  I don’t know why, but for some reason I just feel that I look a thousand times better with a tan, but since the sun and tanning beds are so bad for you, I am now pale! frown

I have tried the sunless tanning products, and have not been successful with any!  If anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them, so I can build up some confidence. happy
