Khrys & friend in SL

Are they any women here that would like to venture into Second Life to build your business? Second Life (SL as it is known), is not a game, but a place where businesses are growing and connections are being made. Many of you are already that we host Women’s Day in SL and on GoogleTalk every Wednesday where free business help is provided. If you are up to the challenge of seeing exactly how far your business can go, please contact me. A group is currently being formed and a major event applicable to both non-profit and for-profit organizations is planned for next Friday in-world.

Looking forward to your replies,
Khrys

Hi Angie – It’s not a show, it’s actually live talk via avatars in Second Life and IM on GoogleTalk. We plan on expanding that in the future though.

Best Practices for Non-Profits in Second Life

Second Life is a 3D virtual world with a rapidly growing population and economy. People from more than 100 countries are residents who create and build the world around them which includes homes, vehicles, various stores, landscapes, et cetera. Before you blow this off as too incredible to believe, take note that organizations such as Mercedes Benz, The American Cancer Society, Eduserve Foundation and Harvard University take this serious enough to run part of their operations from SL. In addition, the SL economy has birthed many entrepreneurs from those selling virtual real estate to designing clothes.

Each of the 34 avatars (people) in this photo represents a non-profit organization within Second Life. These organizations hold meetings, special events, training, network with other organizations and get their needs met via volunteers. If you are an NPO or entrepreneur seeking to understand how to do business in this virtual economy, you owe it to yourself to attend the Best Practices for Non-Profits in SL meeting this Friday at 11:30a EST . The meeting is hosted by TechSoup and will discuss best practices in SL, feature several speakers, and cover fundraising, activism, education, community outreach and the future! Click here for instructions to attend the meeting and to download the Best Practices Report prior to the meeting. Women business owners looking to do business unusual are invited to attend as we are presently forming groups to work with.

    About this author

I help women launch & grow their businesses so they can create lives they truly want to live. I find my work very interesting, never boring, and take great joy in being able to help someone realize their goals. Sometimes challenges are external; other times the challenge is overcoming ourselves. Both are a process so I always tell women the key is to begin.

Eventually we hope do what we do so on a larger scale by working on social enterprise projects, and developing relationships with women abroad. The work of organizations such as CARE and Kiva inspire us to do what we can to give back.

Current projects (please let us know if you'd like to help):

  • Her Second Life/Second Life Womens Chamber of Commerce
  • Launching our newsletter as a magazine
  • Redesigning our website with new services to help more women
  • On a personal note – God gave me a wonderful husband and four children. I’m looking forward to getting to know the women here at Fabulously 40 and building some great relationships.
