Are you fed up with magazine articles telling you to get a shorter and more youthful hair cut?
I have always had fairly long hair. When I was very young it was very long but as I have got older it has got shorter.
I remember my mother in law used to say to me:
‘But Jane, you can’t have long hair when you are old‘.
It was a commonly held idea that long hair was for the young. And so I cut it a little shorter every year, but I didn’t really like it. And then I put it up, which I still do, but as you can see from my photo, I am growing it back!
What do you think? Does long hair look good on the older woman?
I think long hair, or short hair looks good on older women. It just depends on the style, and the woman!
I’ve had and am having my issues with my hair. For one, I cut my hair very short, I mean short a year ago. I thought it would never grow back! It’s just now growing, thank heavens! I just thought it was too cute of a look for me, although it was different and felt great for about a month!
I’ve played with the idea of wearing extenstions but I’m tired of that too so I’m letting my hair grow out, no matter how crazy it gets! That is really a giant step for me, seriously!
You look great in your photo!
Hair is so important to most of us. When it’s not right we don’t feel right, whatever anyone else says! Bad hair days are bad hair days!
Stick with the growing and if it gets too annoying you can always get stylish hats!
I’ve been wrestling with that for some time, but I’ve still kept my hair long, and I’m 50. I think older women can get away with it if it suits you and you keep it looking healthy and trimmed. When I was in my 40’s, it was past my waist. I don’t wear it quite that long anymore, but it’s still long. I’m not sure that I’ll ever change it, I’ve pretty much been wearing it the same way my entire life, just changing how I style it to keep up with the latest trend. It’s what I’m comfortable with, not to mention that I look terrible in short hair. (I’ve always planned to wear it in a bun when I’m elderly.) I’m sure there are those that would disagree with me… like my mother-in-law… she told me I was too old to wear a jean jacket when I was 30!
Hi,Fabulous women!
I run a training and coaching company in UK called changingpeople (www.changingpeople.co.uk)and I do a lot of personal development work with women.I love it and am passionate about people living life to its fullest, whatever their age or circumstances.
I also run courses aimed specifically at those over 50 which has had some amazing results. The words 'It's because I am getting older' are totally banned! Just think how many times a day we make ageist comments, it's the last acceptable form of discrimination I find.Ban it from your household and see how much younger you feel. I like to think of myself as getting wiser!
I am married (30+ years) to a firefighter with two grown up kids, one an actor! And I do adore Elvis Presley...and The Killers! Although my husband has never quite forgiven EP for dying during our honeymoon. Happily it didn't affect our marriage and I am lucky to have met my soul mate so early on in life. (Generally I believe we make our own luck, as you can see from my site, but meeting him was a random act of chance for which I am ever grateful).
I wish everyone the joy of a good relationship!
