What it Means to Be a Mom

Unlike many of my girlfriends, I didn’t have a baby until I was in my thirties.

I wanted to focus on my career in Radio/Television News but what I discovered is, careers come and go but your family relationships last forever. And how you treat your family will have a lasting impact long after you‘re dead and gone.

So what does it mean to be a mom? It means I know what my priorities are. I know my family comes first—-NO MATTER WHAT. Yes, I know that I will have to make sacrifices. Yes, I will deal with my share of frustrations and disappointments. But it also means I will receive love unconditionally from children who are looking for love and guidance and even discipline. It means my legacy will love on—-so I better do my best to be the kind of mother my daughter and the rest of the world will be proud of.

    Hi Bev,

I think a lot of women are waiting to have children now. And you know what? It does mean that perhaps it’s easier to put family first, because we‘re more experienced in our 30s then we were in our 20s. Perhaps we have more patience in our 30s. And we’ve proven to ourselves prior to the baby, that we can make our own living – thus there’s a feeling of safety, both for ourselves and for our babies.

    Anyway, nice post!
