First off, we are not in any danger. The fires all over northern Ca., but, currently not in Sacramento. Sacramento is in a valley, and the smoke from the fires all around us blankets the valley.
I was just out in it, and cannot believe how bad it is.
Everything looks brown. My eyes began to sting, throat got scratchy and sore, and I felt nauseous. Very few people are outdoors in our neighborhood, that in and of itself in June is bizarre, as we have a community pool, tennis courts, and several parks.
Thank goodness it’s not the normal 100+ degrees today. I’d pray for wind to blow the smoke out of the valley, but, that would hinder the firefighters.
A little further south (bay area) but I am officially missing the sky. It’s like living with perpetual overcast that isn’t overcast.. or fog.
I can’t open my windows or doors.
I can’t hang my laundry on the line to dry (it would be dirtier when it comes in).
I can’t take the dogs for long walks.
I can’t imagine what these lower light levels are doing to agriculture.
I can imagine this condition reoccurring throughout this summer, making it one summer to forget. I can see this reoccurring for several summers to come.
Stay indoors, stay healthy,
Dana,
My thoughts are with you. Living in So Cal I know exactly the fear you feel. Watching the fires burn at a distance is very unsettling, especially at night when you‘re unsure you should sleep in case they get closer!
Hang in there and best of luck to you, the sun will shine eventually.

Hi Dana,
Thanks for sharing.
My heart goes out to all of those near the fires.
A few months ago the San Diego fires just missed my home, and we were so grateful.
Many lost their homes and material goods, but what was important was that they had each other.
Neighbors, family and friends supported one another and got through the rough times.
Stay Safe.
Lisa Maria and Stephanie,
Thank you both for you statements of support. At the moment, the smoke in area is from 120 fires up in Mendicino county, a good 3 hours drive away. So I do not have to live with seeing the burning.
Still (let's see if my html plays nice with this textile system)... this is the view from my house at 7 pm. last night. Normally, you see San Pablo Bay, and the Sonoma hills beyond. The sun is bright and the sky blue. Instead:

I had my mid-life crisis after 40 (41 actually). I went on a journey of self-discovery: reading books, “interviewing” anyone who’d talk to me, praying, thinking and taking time to just breathe, meditate….and determined that life is meant to be lived fully, jump in with both feet, take chances, and remember to laugh every day!
