I Need a Hero -

Today I read the blog of a fellow Christian writer who passed away this morning. Her husband has been writing on her blog since she became unable to do it. Each post he would begin with, “Milton here, for Kristy.” Today when I checked on the blog there was a brief heartfelt message telling us of her passing. He signed the post, “Her Hero.”

Reading the words made me cry just a bit as I’ve been thinking about how much I want a hero.

I love the Bonnie Tyler song, “Holding Out for a Hero.” When I first met my ex husband, I remember hearing that song and being overwhelmed with the feelings that I had indeed found my hero. He would be a man to rescue me, hold me safe all of my days, and fight the battles needing to be fought. My hero fell off his fiery steed and landed on his own sword.

Now as a single mom with seven of my eight children still at home, there are days I can get consumed with the need for a hero. I’m thinking about placing a want ad in the paper.

Single Mom with Seven Children searching for a hero. Must be a valiant man of character – even when no one is watching. Quick to change light bulbs and reach the things on the top shelf. Must hold hands, even when we sleep. Gently trains me in the ways of a warrior by reminding me to change the oil in my car (every 3000 miles?) and the air filter in my air conditioner (every month!)

It really is those little things that men know that make them heroes in our lives.

    I’m currently a Realtor in Texas. I would say my biggest accomplishment has been raising eight children, the last two years as a single mom. When the children were young, I homeschooled them…actually, I still homeschool them. Working on my passion of writing was a necessity when I was home full-time.
