Here I go again, writing! I have so enjoyed reading the blogs from others on here I am inspired to once again—do this “thing!” This writing “thing” is not exactly new to me. I “free Lanced” in the 80’s when my children were small, to give me something “intellectually stimulating” until I went “back to school” LAW SCHOOL, that is! Then my “writing” went, as southern women love to say “To hell in a handbasket.” Trust me, legal writing isn’t “creative writing” at all! Wish I had a nickel for each time one of my law professors axed one of my sentences, asking “What is this waste of space here?” “That,” I would respond, is my transition. “Don’t need it, take it out.” So, striving for legal writing perfection, my skills, what few I had developed after teaching school, and working ever so diligently, soon became ghosts. Guess I just created a new meaning for “ghost writing“.....
Well, I will once again attempt to express myself with the written word, in this ever evolving technology of today. Gone are the journals of yesterday, perhaps I will adapt to the keyboard & screen in place of the pen and paper…...
Ladies of the 40 and beyond generations, our lives are so vastly different from that of our dear Grandmothers, mine would never believe the life I lead. Computers, HD TV, answering machines, cell phones, microwaves, all unknown to her. Often I wish they were unknown to me! But, being the realist that I am, I use them and am thankful, most of the time. If this rambling unpolished “blog” has a point, I suppose it is that I am going to try to journal as we used to call it, using this as my medium. Oh Lord, here I go again!!
I hear you!!! I often feel lost in this new world of technology! blogging, linking onto other blogspots, domains, etc… it gets overwhelming and blows my mind! I feel like I need to take a class to get up to speed! But which class do I take and which direction do I go…and what information will be outdated by the time I learn it all anyway…oh dear…I definitely know what you are talking about! Hang in there. It is fun to just get it all down and get feedback from everyone. Learning it in a new way has been fun for me as you see it will be for you! Take care ~~ Gail!
Generations have changed, and unfortunately every individual today is wrapped up in technology whether they realize it or not. Cell phones, music players, and computers consume our lives. To me what’s important is that if I am using technology I must enjoy it. If not, I will say good bye!
It is definitely true that the generations of today are completely different then those of the past however, we have to use all of the devices we encounter on a daily basis in moderation. Today’s society has become so dependent on technology, they don’t know how to live without these items! It’s sad, but true and I think that the one thing that people need to work on is being dependent on these devices. If people in the past lived without them, why can’t we?!
Thanks to each of you for reading my blog & for your comments!
The beauty of our new technology, or one of the beauties, surely is the speed with which we can no communicate. I recall as a little girl, writing letters, and then waiting..waiting…waiting…for what seemed like an eternity for an answer!
Have any of you met a real friend over the internet. Thus far, I believe I have one new friend. We have actually met in public, spoken on the phone, and done other things friends do. But she is the ony one. How about you?
Hi Gail! While I haven’t physically met anyone over the internet, I have met some really nice ladies (on fab40 and other websites) that I would consider friends! I especially have enjoyed one friendship with God’s Glamour Girl, but the distance between us probably has prevented us from meeting in person. She lives in PA while I reside in Arizona. I feel the internet has opened up our world to meet new and interesting women from all over. Fabulously 40 has been a great outlet for me. It came at a wonderful time in my life and I’m so glad to have met some neat women here!!! Would love to learn more about you!! You sound so interesting…and very, very busy!!! ~~~ Dana
I am a criminal prosecutor during the regular work week, and a tearoom partner afternoons & weekends!! I love the tearoom business and providing a lovely place for other women to take time from the madness of our world today and relax!! I am happier at 56 yrs than I ever thought possible. Even though my husband has advanced coronary artery disease, other things in my life are going well. My Mother and I have a wonderful relationship, as do my daughters & I. Now, I am beginning a new role in life, “GG“—that’s how my Granddaughter,Latha, knows me! Life is good!!
