In 18 days, the most gorgeous black woman that has ever graced the  steps of the White House will stand next to her handsome husband who will take office as the 44th President of the United States of America. Wow! My mother and father didn't live to see it.  They grew up in a time when just being elected mayor was a huge accomplishment.  I doubt even that my mother would have voted, thinking that this was some sort of cruel joke, a way to get enough black people in one place so that some major tragedy could take place (a roof collapsing, a fire).  It's one of the reasons, she always discouraged me from attending Black Business Conventions and the like.  She would be beside herself right now, still pinching herself, praying hard that nothing happened to him, hoping that he does well.  And despite the fact that he is a year older than I am, she would say "He's a good boy".    For southern black women, you never grow old, just up.

18 Days. I cannot make it to the Inauguration.  I think January in DC is a horrible time to do that.  It's cold. Why not January in Florida or Georgia or someplace where a full length cashmere coat. ( I know that they Obama's will set a new fashion trend and they will look stellar as they have for the past two years on the campaign trail.)

    • I’m excited by the whole positioning of things. I will be in D.C. for the Inauguration celebration whether I end up staying indoors with my brother and his family or out in public watching on the big screen. I’m excited.
