There's a saying that goes, "The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree."  It's something I used to hear grown folks say when they were talking about other people's children.  Usually, it was something bad.  My mother, for example, could always tie a child's bad behavior back to a parent.

There was another saying grown folks had:  "He's (or she) a chip off the old block.  Normally, this was something they'd say when they were bragging on their own children.

Well, I'm going to combine the two sayings as I express my pride in my daughter's performance last night at the Exchange Club Speakers Competition.  Janie competed against eight other high school seniors and walked away with a $500 college scholarship.  Yes, she's a chip off the old block because her mother was a speaking champion in both high school and college.  So naturally, it has to be in the genes!  And no, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree—-and even when it does, I know how to pick it back up and place it where it rightfully belongs!

Praise God!
