I was actually going to write about something else today---you know, continue with all of the reasons why you should be purchasing a copy of my book, Whatever! A Baby Boomer's Journey Into Middle Age on November---but today my heart is heavy after learning the news that the brother of a dear friend of mine was murdered Wednesday night in Dallas.

Ora called me yesterday from Califronia to share the news. Apparently he brother was murdered by a boy he was caring for as a foster parents and the boy's mother was also involved. It was a gruesome scene---and what is the irony of this--a friend of mine, Emily Lopez, was the reporter covering the story (six degrees of separation).

Ora was amazingly calm as she gave me the details and explained how she asked her brother time and time again not to take in any at-risk kids--especially teenagers and especially those on medication. But the funny thing is, I was more torn up about his death than she was and I didn't even know him.

But knowing Ora, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, she has the peace of God deep down in her soul. God is comforting her in ways I don't understand. He has lifted her to a place where she can rest assured that her brother will be OK in the arms of Jesus.

Ironically, it is through Ora's loss, that I have gained something very valuable. I have learned this:

1) "the peace of God surpasses all understanding"

2) Intercessory prayer is very powerful

3) sometimes you've got the put "self" on the shelf because it's not always about you.

Peace & Blessings,
