It’s eight months since contributing to my own blog. A lovely woman I sometimes speak to said today,‘You need more time to express your real thoughts.’ So I am going to try and do that.

I now drive everyday, but still don’t feel comfortable with new routes and major motorways, more specifically intersections.

Frankiecat passed away, but the others still visit, especially Smartiepants. A new Maine Coon cat has appeared.

I can’t wait to finish the contract on the job I started last September. The workload is very heavy and the pupils incredibly demanding. Their motivation is to be admired, too few students in my last place had this, but, these youngsters drive themselves into a frenzy before practice tests of the mock tests of the real tests.I’ve noticed a couple of fifteen and sixteen year-olds with grey streaks already developing.

It’s Easter break. My GCSE girls are going to wonderful places like South Africa, New Zealand, cottages on the coast, or even partaking in wonderful workshops by wonderful actors, musicians and writers. I have done very little except sleep more, watch films, catch-up with a few good friends and seen family.

These pupils wanted to email work to be marked over the holiday. I was put in the position of explaining the following: ‘I get into work at 7.30am, and leave at 7pm up to three or four days of the week. In those extra hours I am planning, and marking all the practice tests I set on a twice weekly basis so that they are prepared.’ I did not mention the odd Saturday or Sunday for fear of looking a complete loser. If I had not been doing that then maybe marking work over the holidays would have been possible, but I had arranged my term time hours to avoid that situation. These girls that I’m teaching, when they get to their mid-forties, will most definitely not be working all the hours in a day just to turn a 19/20 mark to a 20/20 mark. They will know when to say ‘No‘.

So I’ve jumped from ‘Why should I have done any work or coursework over the holidays when you don’t work over the holidays?’ to ‘Can I have your email address to send you answers to the questions you set?’ (Questions I actually set them some four weeks previously, but because of a ball, and weekend weddings, and choir competitions, and family commitments, theirs not mine,  they were never done.)
