Yesterday night was our Valentine date. I cooked all afternoon and prepared for this moment that is always fun!I left the house with my goodies and joined the girls at a friends house!

We decided last year to make the best out of this controversal day. It’s not an important day for most of us- I for one prefer that my husband shows me affection a bit everyday than one day a year- but can it can be very depressing when you‘re single. We decided that it would be an occasion for us girls to gather. The boys do the same. This way nobody feels left out and everyone has an evening to look forward to.

When I lived in Turkey, the expats use to have “Anti Valentine’s Day” parties. It was for all singles. Those were wild. Some would hang pictures of “ex“s and throw darts at them, which in some cases was pretty funny in the beginning. Valentine became a good opportunity to party which was great, but what I didn’t like about them was the way some people would trash with vehemence not only their “ex“s, but also other people they didn’t like. And since I don’t like trashing people and I am still in good terms with my “ex“s, I would sometimes prefer to spend the evening alone.

Valentine is after all a celebration of love, and friendship is a big part of our love source. So eight of us gathered last night, ate, drank and laughed our butts off, all this without having to trash anybody in the process.  It was a perfect Valentine date!

Hope you have a great one too... xx
