I am working towards adopting an older child out of the foster care system and would love to chat with others who have been through this process or are now going through it.  Any advice and/or hearing of others experiences would be so gratefully appreciated.

    • I think its a wonderful thing to adopt.  However, I can tell you from experience with this subject.  Please make sure the children do know who thier parents are.  Dont make it a secret or a mystery as children, can handle the truth.  I may not be pretty or nice but they need to know and if they dont know, its one of the first things they want to know when they get old enough, like an obessesion or drive.  We all want to know where we come from, what genetics, and some blood history.

This will no way impact your relationship with any child you adopt, in fact Ive seen it make the relationships closer.  Many times children wont accept thier blood parents but just need to know.  So understand this upfront.  Kids need to know and deserve the truth.
