HERE IS MY PROBLEM!   I HAVE ADULT ACNE AND IT‘S NOT PRETTY!!  SINCE I GOT OFF THE I.U.D. IN MARCH I HAVE BROKEN OUT LIKE A TEENAGER!  IT IS SOOOOO UGLY!  MY FRIENDS SAY IT‘S MY HORMONES AND I SHOULD GET ON THE PILL, BUT I‘M JUST STARTING TO LOSE WEIGHT AND THE PILL MAKES ME GAIN WEIGHT!  PLUS I‘M 41 YRS OLD AND I HAVE HEART DISEASE IN MY FAMILY HISTORY ( I DON‘T WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE).  I‘M SO BUSY I WILL FORGET TO TAKE THE PILL EVERYDAY.  ANY SUGGESTIONS?

P.S.
IT DON‘T HELP WHEN MY HUSBAND SAYS HE CAN CONNECT THE DOTS!!!

    • No, it doesn’t help when he says that. Have you smacked the hell out of him lately?? ;)

I suffer from acne, too. I have since I was 11 years old.

I’m currently on a twice-daily regimen of Tetracycline that helps to keep it managed. But, if I get over-stressed, or it’s just ‘that time‘, I still have flares.

I’m also scarred... I say severely, my husband says only moderately. Either way, it’s obvious I’ve battled it for a long time.

There’s proactive, and the new cheaper alternative (Acne Free, or something?), that are supposed to work wonders. However, I’m allergic to benzoyl peroxide and even the milder version with salacylic (sp?) acid makes it worse for me.

If you‘re going to do a pill regimen, you have to commit yourself to taken the med exactly as prescribed. Make it a part of your routine (keep them near your toothbrush, or by the coffee maker, etc.).

      Good luck with it!

    • You can get rid of acne  by a strict diet.

It’s not fun but it works.

Take the test on sensitivity, eliminate everything you are not allowed, acne will be the thing of the past.

www.alcat.com   they are in Florida, you can do everything by mail.

It’s all about the food.....I learned it the hard way.

    • I have recently (about 4years) started having problems with my skin as well. I think mine is mostly hormonal and sometimes stress related I also have thyroid issues and that doesn’t help.
But I’m with Yana as well. I think diet plays a huge part. I just recently cut a lot of dairy out of my diet to see if it will help. I think next I will cut poultry and see what happens. I really feel that we ingest a lot of extra hormones in the poultry we eat and it’s not good for our skin or anything else.

    • I too have had acne since I was a teenager and have done all pills and washes but I am usually allergic to them.  I think the most important thing for your skin is to drink your 64oz of water a day.  My doctor recommended that I try using the drug, spironalactone, you have to watch your potassium intake and still have all you reproductive parts.  I have been on it for 2 years and it is awesome!!!

    • Over the counter on online order Pernox, its the best over the counter treatment Ive found, my daugther is a model and she uses it everyday and has beautiful skin, also, I know this sounds really corny but go to GNC and get Thayers Witch Hazel, the lavender is best for bad break outs but the rose is better for over 40 skin, use it as much as possible.  Wash daily with Pernox, and use the witch hazel as and astringent.  Thayers is the only one I recomend.  Finally do not pick the bumps unless yellow then do it lightly with no nails.  and wash and use astringent.

My other recomendations is go to a plastic surgeon that carries Obagi products, its expensive but worth it.  You consult with thier estitition and they have a wonderful line my daughter uses along with the pernox and thayers witch hazel.

Finally, get only OIL FREE MAKE UP.. if your not sure if its oil free dont buy it..

That goes for powder and foundation.  Use a matt finish and use it daily. Wash every night before bed.

If you cant find Pernox order it from Amazon.com get the wash and the scrub, the scrub is best.

Yana is right start eating tons of Yogurts it will help clear your skin and go to your doctor and get low grade antibiotics if your break outs are severe to kick in the healing effects and kill off any underlying infections.

I know all of this because I have three children and if they get a break out its a disaster ... so its my Lock and Load plan..

Drink lots of water, eat veggies and fruit, cut out all candy, sugar and starch.

Youll see a difference.  Men will never understand how a womans body changes so much as they have bodies that change little.  They rarely have a hormone problem and they dont have water weight.  If he says one more thing tell him you have to get off the birth controll pills so he has to start taking the male birth control pill.. I bet he shuts up immediately.

    • Greeneyes...I want to know more about your experiences with Pernox. I checked out a lot of good reviews on it. How long have you been using it? My skin is combination and usually I only have had minor breakouts. Like I said above I only really started having problems in the past 4 years I really think it’s hormonal(perimenopause). I recently tried this stuff called MAMA lotion and it has really jacked my skin up! I read all the reviews which were mostly really good. Some of the people did say that the product causes your skin to purge initially so you may get a bad breakout but this is ridiculous!
I’m scared to continue using it now. My skin has never been this bad. And this has only been in the past week.
I want to just get back to the basic...a good simple cleanser and moisturizer. I used to use witch hazel and liked it so I know I’m going to start using that again as a toner. let me know if you have any more info. on Pernox.
      Thanks.

    • Almostfive0 Ive been using it since my youngest started modeling at age 13 so she is 21 years old now, so about 8 years, and its a scrub and its fine grained I use it in the shower and at night before bed, but once a day is fine, then I use my Thayers witch hazel, I like the rose blend as it makes my skin love fabulous.  My daughter the model uses the Lavender and my son uses plain.  I get desprate calls from Los Angeles from my daughter once every three months or soooo, “Mom Im out of pernox, order it and send it.. please I have a shoot next week and I dont want to break out..”  So it must be pretty good.  As far as your moisterizer, if your oily skined make sure its oil free, there are great moisturizers with no oil and you wont break out.  Lancome has a great line, but ask if it is Oil free before using.

If have about 200 or 300 to spare and can add Obagi products to your daily regime, it reall helps.  Im going to be 50 next summer and Im told my skin looks in my 30’s and Ive used the above products, stayed out of the sun and Used Obagi for about 10 years or longer now.

Thayers Witch Hazel is the only Witch Hazel to use its at GNC or any health product store.  Rose or Lavender.

Pernox is on Amazon if you cant find it locally.  Its wonderful.

    • Thanks greeneyes,
I’m going to try to find Pernx and Thayers today maybe. I never use moisturizer with an oil base even though my skin is combination.
I really want to cut a few things out of my diet as well. Hopefully after the move I can get settled in a couple of weeks and I can get into a good regimes again...with everything!
      Thanks a lot.

Well as for me and yogurt...I was really into it the past few years but I just cut dairy out of my diet to see if it would have a positive effect on my skin...lol
