I can't claim that I am the first girl on my block to notice this one, but I ADORE Fracois' Nars Velvet Mat Lip Pencils. Yes, they've been around for a couple of years now, but I have so many new products in my que to test for you, my loyal readers!

They come, of course, in the jumbo size crayon (some would say “chubby“, but I despise that word because I heard it so much as as a child). The promotional literature says that it “instantly coats” your lips with color and I agree. Particularly in the darker range (yes I bought one of each!) it seems like it glides on magically and presto!, you are ready to rock! I also have been amazed at the usefulness of the jumbo crayon as a liner. You might think, at first glance you need a smaller, sharper point for a liner...but the NARS Velvet Mat seems to me to be fine as a liner, if not even better than its skinnier sisters.

Now, the ads also say that it is “long lasting“, and by this time, ladies, we all know there is no such thing as a truly long lasting lipstick. And, I  know that many of you have put many brands and shades to many “kissing tests” just to see if any lipstick could be described as “kiss proof“! That IS what you were doing, right? Testing your lipstick, right? Right!

Francois Nars comes by his insights naturally, having grown up in a fashion conscious home in the South of France. He went to work early in the industry holding designer positions in several notable cosmetics houses. As I have noted in these pages before I am fascinated by NARS and its tendency to pick creative names for its color cosmetics. Currently it has an eyeshadow in “Orgasm” and a lipstick in “Fire Down Below“!

By the way, you will need a NARS sharpener for your Mat Velvet Crayon. Don't make the same mistake I did....that sharpener has an adapter on the large size hole that must be removed for your crayon to fit.
