It’s time to hit the road...

I'm planning a trip across America and would love YOUR ideas!

I want to visit fun, interesting towns and places that appeal to visitors who like to experience what the locals do, the cool places they go to, eat, shop, play and stay.

My intention is to travel to several towns across America, staying only 2 days in each place. The purpose of my trip is for fun & adventure, as well as, education and exploration for a new venture I’m organizing.  And I would love my Fab40 friends to be part of this with me.

What's YOUR favorite town? I'm open to all ideas, maybe a town your family loves going back to, or you and hubby romance to, cool meet-up places with friends, a favorite inn/retreat, adventurous escape, special event or fair...

I also want to meet people in these special places, maybe you know of a local artisan or owner of a family restaurant or inn that became part of the town tradition.

Can't wait to hear your ideas so I can start planning my trip! happy

    • I have several places that stand out.  I live in Dallas/Ft Worth, TX or metroplex and there is so much to do and i would love to meet you if you travel here.  If I could go with you and show you one of my favs then Kansas City, MO - so much history and art to see and they are the fountain capital of America so that is wonderful.  Finally is Eureka Springs, AR - it is in the mountains and is so clean, peaceful with great shopping and scenic.

    • Trudy, fun idea Corn Palace, and I bet the town of Mitchell is pretty cool.

Wookiemom, like the sound of Eureka Springs too. And do you have a special area of Dallas and Kansas City you can suggest?

Yana, that is a good starting point, I’ll keep it on my list I’m sure you know of some really cool places!

Chinadoll, you‘re so sweet, thank you!

Denise, will keep you in mind in my travels!

Ladies, thank you these are great. As I compile and narrow down my itinerary over the next few weeks I may be back in touch with you with other inquiries about your suggestions. Thanks so much!

    • Wow I wish I could afford to take off work and do the same. I know everyone thinks NYC is the place to go, and I would say come and hop on one of those tourist buses and enjoy the view. We have the largest Chinatown on the East Coast and Saturday the dumpling houses are teeming with people and good food. If you like boat rides, the Staten Island Ferry will be the way to go, and I believe there is ferry service to the Statue of Liberty now. You may even be able to get to the crown, which was closed after 9/11 and recently opened to the public. I haven’t been there since I was a kid. Central Park is gorgeous this time of year; Museum Mile with all those museums and if you want to, hop the subway and visit the Bronx Zoo.

Even though I live in New York, I love Maine. Portland was beautiful, I enjoyed the boat ride in Casco Bay, the trolley tour through old Portland, the Observatory, the little shops and cafes, then the trip to Bailey Island to eat at Cook’s. I also enjoyed going to Freeport and visiting all the outlet stores including L.L. Bean’s HQ. If it’s hot enough, the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge near Wells is gorgeous.

      Enjoy!

    • Rose, we stayed in the Finger Lakes region last year and will again this year..it is located in South Central New York State and it is quite beautiful..Seneca Lake is gorgeous and the wineries are very small town.  I will PM you info with a place that we are staying at in case you are interested.

We also stay in Avalon, along the New Jersey shore..it is a mostly residential with a small area of hotels.  We stay at the Windrift Hotel which is quite nice right on the beach.  The outside tiki bar is really fun.

My parents live in Pinehurst, North Carolina (a huge golfing community)..a very beautiful place with lots to see and you are only 60 miles from the North Carolina shore..all of the North Carolina shore is beautiful.

      Sounds like lots of fun!!!estaticestatic

    • Rose,

Maine will love you back; check out their website - visitmaine.com. If you like lighthouses, you’ll be in your glory because they have so many! I’ve never seen such a clean state! The entire time we were there I think we saw like 3 pieces of garbage, and when a piece rolled past us, we had to pick it up because it looked so out of place. When my buddy dropped me off back in NYC, the very first thing I saw was someone tossing a diaper out their car window. Yep, I thought, I’m home! frown

I forgot to mention the South Street Seaport, one of my favorite places to hang out, the Cloisters in upper Manhattan, as well as Fire Island (where cars are not allowed). Keep me informed!
