American Idol—My latest addiction

You can now look forward to my weekly assessment of American Idol.  Yes, American Idol.  I am addicted to American Idol.

I will say from the onset that I love Adam Lambert.  He is a slam-dunk to win American Idol.  There is no suspense, no drama.  It doesn't matter.  It's worth it to just watch this guy who, on a weekly basis, blows away the audience, the judges, and even more astounding, Hard to Please Simon.

My friends give me a bad time for this American Idol addiction.  All I can say is, Talk to the Hand!

After a long day at work, by the time American Idol rolls around, it’s time to numb out!

American Idol is my previous beloved Chardonnay, my heroin, and my fix.  On Tuesday night, I DVD'd it.  Imagine my horror when with my favorite Adam, the last to perform, was cut short because the show had run overtime.  My co-dependent husband tried valiantly and without success to figure out a way for me to see the rest of the show the DVR had so mercilessly cut off.

I was inconsolable.  I tossed and turned all night and had to wait until the official American Idol site got it up.

So, here's my recap of American Idol, Season 8, 8 Contestants show:

MATT:  Love Matt’s voice, especially when he sings while playing the piano. My only question.  Where's the "mole"?  What is the "mole"?  Baby pictures showed no mole.  Tuesday night, Matt wore a fedora.  Was this to cover possible removal of the "mole"?

ALLISON:  America, wake up!  This is not really a 16-year-old girl.  Geraldo Riviera is about to reveal that she is really Janice Joplin reincarnated.  Stay tuned.

SCOTT:  Can I please be politically incorrect just for a minute here?  Just a quick teensy weensy foot in the mouth admission?  I DON'T CARE THAT HE'S BLIND.  He reminds me of a very poor imitation of a younger Barry Manilow.  I was snoring within 10 seconds of the onset of his song.

UPDATE:  The masses spoke, the judges agreed and Scott was sent home.  This whole “save” business provided a few tortuous moments for Scott as the judges were split 2/2 on whether to save him.  The cowardly threesome let Simon do the dirty work as he gave the final verdict.  I did feel a moment of slight guilt.  I was THRILLED Scott was going home but then I felt bad when they did all that emotion producing going home song.  I’m such a sucker for nostalgia.

ANOOP:  Okay, I don't get it.  I mean, yeah, his voice is okay.  But what was with that bubble gum fluorescent green striped sweater?  My face is in a continual cringe when he's singing.  Great eyes, but really, he needs to go back to the frat house and binge drink, act stupid around girls and admit that he's the brainiac/nerd that got him into UNC in the first place.

LIL ROUNDS:  You go girl!  Getting all sexy and sassy in your Tina-Turner wannabe look.  I love you, your voice.  But it's just not happening, you know.  There's just something "old" about you.  I know, 3 small kids.  Damn kids.  That'll do it to ya every time.

KRIS:  Adorable.  I just want to squeeze his little cheeks.  Good song.  And now I'm going to sound like my favorite Simon:  Forgettable, unless you're a 13 year old girl.

DANNY:  You go guy!  Love the voice, loved the song, and again another politically incorrect statement, but being a widower doesn't hurt either.

ADAM:  What else can I say that Simon didn't?  STANDNG OVATION.  I'm downloading the song onto my IPOD as we speak.  Even my manly man husband, who swears that it was paint thinner, was moved by this unique and outstanding interpretation of Mad Mad World.  It's been in my head since Tuesday.

OKAY, there's my Week 8 recap.  Add your thoughts, opinions, crushes, dislikes, etc.

I hope you're as addicted as I am.  Addicts love the company of other addicts.

And...Stayed tuned for my American Idol Update next week...now I just have to figure out what to do with myself until next Tuesday....

Oh yeah, I could listen to Adam’s amazing version of Mad World that I downloaded onto my ipod.

    • I was freakkin that the DVR did not record the last minute of A.I. to show my husband.  I even went to the A.I. website and found the link and sent it to his Blackberry but he couldn’t get into it.  Sheesh.  But last night there it was!  A.I. showed it again and hubs got to hear Adam singing that very strange song.  His voice was amazing.  I felt vindicated.  All hubs could say was, that’s good.

Great recap, here. I’m an Adam and Allison fan, too. I started out with Danny, but he’s no longer standing out among the crowd.

And, I think Anoop will be the next one to go home.

Some of them have just gotten as good as they‘re going to get during the competition.

And, if I may add: I cannot stand Kellie Pickler and I'm not sure why she even has an album, as she can't sing !!

    • Mary-how dare you compare Scott to my childhood idol and should-have-been-either-my-father-or-father-of-my-child Barry Manilow! Barry has never had such poor hairstyling, would be able to pull off pink pants, and he can sing both dirges and disco (see: Copacabana.)

Until such time as I see a retraction of your poorly-chosen comparison, I shall not read your comments on our Idol blog.

(PS for those who do not get my humor, this is a jokeestatic)

    • Cindy:  I knew you were kidding, kind of.  But remember, I said Scott was a POOR IMITATION of Barry Manilow.  I do like Barry Manilow.  Who couldn’t really like him?  Now I have that damn song, “Can’t Live Without You” (I think that’s the name) out of my head!  Thanks a lot!  Now you owe me an apology!

I hate to make any of you jealous, but I was at the results show Wed night!  It was soooo amazing! We were sitting just 4 rows behind Simon and Paula!  It is so different in person; much smaller and more off-camera activity than you realize.  From the crowd reaction, it was not a surprise to anyone who the bottom three were this week. I think getting rid of them one at a time is ok because it gives us more weeks to listen to ADAM, MATT, DANNY, and ALLISON. I think everyone was really impressed as Scott was singing his heart out to survive.  And it sounded really great until he went into those high notes again. You could just sorta feel the crowd deflate and knew that he wasn’t going to stick around.

Oh, and Flo Rida is my new (ok, only) favorite hot gangster rap singer.

    • never2late:  Well I am JEALOUS of you but in the best of ways.  How fun to be there in person.  How did you manage that.  And question to everyone?  Where are Adam’s parents?  Are they ever there?  His dad has a very dry sense of humor about him and I’m not sure he’s all that thrilled with his son’s “emo” look, although he’s changed his appearance the last couple of weeks.

The high notes that Scott sang...CRINGING CRINGING CRINGING!

Honestly, he’s an average singer who I’m hoping is counting his blessings that he got such a fantastic experience and opportunity.  And he’s in the Tour.

angeldove:  Resist!  Resist!  You don’t sound like your mom.  You are not your mom.  I tell myself this every day happy

I wish I could follow all the fun while Idol is on but my child works nights so we watch it when she gets home. Which is why I missed Adam singinng Mad Mad World. He is crazy beautiful!
Adam will probably win but Danny, Allison, Matt and possibly Lil will walk away with a music careers anyways.

    • I wasn’t aware that Scott was into contemporary Christian music.  I think he’s a shoe in for a record contract from a good Christian recording company.  He has a great story and a good heart.

Allison, can I be just a teensy weensy catty here or just really be exposing my age, but the red hair...gotsta go.  I keep reminding myself she is only 16...her voice is truly phenomenal but she may need her personality and personal development to ripen just a bit so we can get a sense of who she is.

Lil has a fantastic voice.  They want to see more of HER but let’s all remember...she has those 3 little kids.  It’s so easy to lose parts of ourselves when we‘re caretaking like that.  They’ve done an incredible makeover on her.

Adam, IMHO, is lightyears ahead of the already ridiculously talented Danny, Matt, Kris and Allison.  The show will be very fun to watch from this point on.

Isn’t it knd of fun to just for a few moments here and there, cast aside our worries about the economy, wars, violence, sadness, and trouble and just enjoy something in the moment, just for the joy, the company of others, the music, the getaway.

It didn’t occur to me to try to go to the show until I was completely taken by David Cook. When you get the ticket, you still have to go stand in line.  Unbelievably, they cut off letting anymore people in right in front of my friend and I!!!  I really think it worked out perfectly though because then they give you a guaranteed seat at an upcoming show.  And we had fantastic seats, the first row with a riser, so the view was perfect.

By the way, Adam’s mom was sitting in the front row ahead of us.  She was there with two of his friends... the blond one is supposedly his boyfriend!  Oops, hope I didn’t just ruin anyone’s perception by letting that, er, cat out of the, er, closet.  happy

Doesn’t he kinda seem like a modern day Elvis?

Not sure america will get beind him or not. Lil needs to step it up she does have it in her. But Kris is the one we need to watch. Alison will go a long way as she grows into her self.

I am so glad to have somewhere I can let go. Thanks for the giving us your recap ITS GREAT.
