Okay, it’s not really a feast.  In fact, I landed at John Wayne, my husband and son picked me up, we met my sister and niece for breakfast and then, we rushed home because I have a very, very sick lab/retrieve/collie mix.

Yes, I had fun at our daughter’s and with the grandkids-we even tried Dr. Andrew Weil’s fantastic restaurant, “Tru Foods” in Scottsdale and had a great time.  (More on this in a sec).

We got back to their house and my husband called, “I hate to ruin your vacation, but when I got home and went to let the dog in-it appeared as if I needed to call a CSI team.  What should I do?”

Sigh.  Poor Sunshine somehow burned the pad of her back paw and broke two nails down to the quick so far that she was bleeding everywhere.

My goal for the rest of the week-be a good enough nurse that she rallies and comes back to the world of the living.  Seriously.  This is not good.

More on this in my blog on Friday, I’m sure.

About my “special” meal at Tru Foods.  Okay, by now you all know about my penchant for healthy and decadent foods-Here’s what we had:

Daughter and son-in-law:  Bison burgers with organic provolonge, heirloom tomatoes, baby kale leaves on a flaxseed roll.  Kale, parmesan, breadcrumb salad, sweet potato hash.

They split a heirloom tomato, yellow and red watermelon, feta, mint and balsamic salad (too die for)

Kids:  almond butter, banana and strawberry sandwich on 9 grain bread with baby zucchini and carrot sticks with tzatiki sauce

Me:  “TLT“-tempeh, lettuce, heirloom tomato, avocado and mayo on the 9 grain bread.  I also had the kale salad (sans parmesan) and hash.

We ordered the crudite tray which had a lot of hybrid, gorgeous and delicious veggies (so many that we had enough left for dinner and beautiful enough that the boys ate almost as many as I did!) with tzatiki sauce, tapenade spread and hummus.

Dessert:  Our daughter had the moulton chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream.  Aidan had a scoop of the same vanilla ice cream, our son-in-law had the lemon-ginger lo-fat froyo with beautiful berries and I split the most decadent 72% cocoa, non-dairy chocolate pudding with roasted pistachios with Dylan.  Okay, I got to taste it and Dyl kept telling me this was his favorite dessert ever.

I could see why.  I came home and once I saw the vet bill-I figured I’d wait and suggest going to the one we have in Fashion Island for our anniversary next year than anytime in the near future.

Luckily, I had that meal before starting my 24/7 shift at our private animal rehab center.

    • Oh gosh Carine you go to Dr Weils Resturant and we took my FIL to Paula Deens!!!! Yikes!

As for Sunshine good to hear she’s drinking and going out. I think that’s good news anyways. My cat has been sick and it is so stressful when our fur babies are not well :‘(

    • so sorry for your furkid as well Vikki.  we did wind up hving to get spec prescription food for our girl-she was just not drinking and was dehydrated.  the foods both stimulate her appetite and since it’s canned, have enough water to keep her going.  she’s finally showing improvement today!
