This time of year is horrendously busy for us. But last saturday the hard work of Joe and the faculty and staff at Seabury Hall was so worth it as an amazing senior class graduated. These kids are truly exceptional. Not only are they sweet young men and women who have a genuine care for the role they will play as they go out into the world but they managed to earn in the neighborhood of 5 million dollars worth of merit scholarships to some of the top universities in the country; Yale, Harvard, Barnard, Columbia, Stanford.....the list goes on.

One thing I really love about graduation at our school is the kids wear all white and they are barefoot to signify their connection with the Hawaiian land. After graduation they are inundated with adornments such as fresh flower lei, tiaras, even blow up pool toys! Some kids are so covered only their eyes show!

But this group did something completely different this year that will set the bar for graduating classes to follow. Each year there is a senior gift. These kids have been working on theirs since the 10th grade. They earned $10,000 to give the school an endowment for financial aid! The crowd roared with applause!

Congratulations, class of 2010! You’ll go out and do great things in the world. With you and other young people like you in charge of our world in the future - I know everything will be alright!
