As if there weren't enough reasons to be cautious when giving your pet a prescription drug, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) comes out with yet another reason. Uninformed people sometimes seek out prescription drugs for their pets that suffer from illness and disease such as pet joint degeneration.

    • I am sooo against Pet prescription drugs. Our vet recently tried to put my Yorkie on “puppy zanax” for his depression. We gave it to him for a couple of days because he was a very sad puppy (see my blog}.  Anyway, he was a totally different dog once that got into his system. He got really aggressive, he is not normally snappy at all but he was horrible on them.

    • Many of you know about our kitty Fred and his congenital heart defect he was born with. He has to be on prescription drugs to stay alive. One to slow down his heart rate and one to lower his blood pressure and he is also in a diuretic. Do I want to have to give him these drugs? No, but if I didn’t he would not be alive today. I think in certain circumstances you have no choice. However as a pet owner I don’t think you should give any drug to your pet without being informed and asking your vet questions especially regarding side effects. Robyn any antidepressant that you give a pet can possibly cause aggression. It is one of the known side effects.
