Have you recently loss your job or are you a business owner and business is really slow? If so, this is not the time to sit around feeling sorry for yourself. This is the time to come up with a plan to sustain you and/or your family. When you are unemployed, the bills are due, and you see your savings and investments dwindling fear sets in. However, do not allow fear, worry, and the feeling of failure to take root. It is the time to tap into resources that can help sustain you until you get back on your feet.

Medical Insurance
There is a program through Kaiser Permanente called the "Bridge Program." It is for people that are employed or unemployed that do not currently have medical insurance. This insurance is a well kept secret. It is available for 24 months, and the process is very easy. You and your family can get full coverage for only $64.00 per month. That includes you, your spouse, and your child(ren). Also, you don't even have to be married. A single person without medical insurance can make up to $32,510 a year, a family of four can make up to $66,170 a year, and a family of six up to $88,600 a year. The co-pay is only $10 per visit, and I do not believe there is a deductible. You must be 64 year of age and under to qualify. You can only take advantage of the "Bridge Program" once in your lifetime.

Food Resource
A great resource to get tons of food for a very low price is an organization called Angel Food Ministries (www.angelfoodministries.com). For only $30 you get a minimum of at least $70 worth of food. The food is not from the government or even for low income. Matter of fact, the organization was created to help middle income people get reasonable priced food. You can go to their website and find out if they are in your location. Also, they post their menu monthly. The meat alone is worth over $100.

Dental Insurance
Like medical insurance dental insurance can be very expensive. There is affordable dental insurance from a company called CompBenefits (www.compbenefits.com), owned by Humana. In Georgia, for a family of three the premium is $281 a year. The co-pay is $10 per visit, and you can go twice a year for preventative maintenance which includes x-rays. Major dental work is discounted and many times can be cheaper than employer dental insurance.

If you are currently unemployed or in transition, what resources have you come across to help sustain you during  difficult times?
