I recently overcame a life changing health crisis. It has been a 2 1/2 year battle with a Heart Arryhthmia that caused a lot of problems and nearly killed me. As one can imagine, I have been on a roller coaster of emotions, enduring regular doctors appointments, medicine regimes, procedures, including a pacemaker implantation, some invasive procedures. And those are only the physical hoops I had to jump through.  The emotional pull of depression, fatigue, fear, discouragement and defeat took its toll too.  And it took its toll on my entire life.

I now find myself unemployed, and having been self employed, there are no government benefits to fall back on. I have lost my house, my friends (because I became a recluse) and I made a critical mistake of believing my boyfriend could “rescue” me from the financila burden. After a year living together, we had to part ways.

So I begin 2009 with a new perspective! One would think that after the last couple of years, I would want to just lay down and give up. But that isn’t who I am. Sure, I’ve had plenty of pity parties. I’ve cried, I’ve been angry.... heck, I’ve been through all the emotions of grief and loss. I have three beautiful children, (22, 19 and 17) and I’m starting over again...... again.

What will I take with me into 2009 as I leave the previous year behind?

I have learned that when you make a mistake, sometimes the only way to “fix” it is to walk away and let it go.

I learned that no matter how bad things get, there is always one thing you can count on in life.... change.

I have learned to reach out to women just like me and find solace that deep down inside, we are all the same.

I have learned to appreciate every breath and every moment, because you never know whats coming for you.... (learned that line from the movie, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons“).

I learned about this site.... and intend to become actively involved in 2009.  Thank you!

Thanks for letting me share.

    • And you are so right, we are all the same. You came to the right group of women, that’s for sure. There is not one of us here that has not been through trials and tribulations, we are here for you.
So sister, grab a hanky, pull your computer up close and tell us all about it. We got your back, girl.

    • Ditto to what everyone else said! :) I am thankful that my business is picking up, and that my husband has a great job, but life has not always been a bed of roses (unless you consider it is also a bed of thorns.) I am glad you have learned to not let circumstances define who you are.
I have struggled through my own health challenges and have taken what I learned from that and turned it into a business. Doors will open for you my friend. Be positive and open.

    • Dear Kelly,

It is through life altering circumstances that we learn what is important in life.  I like your decision to go on and make the best of 2009.  You are not alone in your struggles.  Letting go of all the old hurts, disappointments and fears will leave you open to all the great opportunities that will come your way.

2009 is going to be Fine
