I loved being a child and pretending by myself, with my friends, or cousins when they came to visit. When I pretended by myself I most often would be Barbra Striesand. I would listen to her very first (and only album my parents owned)as early as 4 years old, and stand in front of the mirror singing my heart out along with her. I prayed my nose would grow and that I would look just like her. Of course that never happened. Ha~!
Into my pre teen, and early teenage years, my Grandma was always sure to take me to Barbra’s latest movie releases,or buy me her latest album or tape. Those times that my Grandma shared my love of Barbra will always be cherished.
Barbra Striesand played an important part of my childhood and for that... I thank her.

With my cousins  we most often played “make believe” as the girls from “Petticoat Junction.” We had to take turns being each of them to keep things fair.
Remember Betty Jo,Bobbie Jo, and Billie Jo????

Awwwwwwww... what fun it was to pretend as a child!

    • Awww Petty Coat Junction. That used to be one of most favorite shows. I always wanted to take a bath in one of the water tanks.
As a child of a single Mother, toys were very rare. My friend Ann that live down from my Grandmother had barbie dolls! OMG! We had so much fun with those barbie dolls.
I had two uncle that were twins and another that was my age. We would play cops and robbers on our bikes. Until, one day I was the robber running on foot and one of the cops ran smack into me with his bike and knocked my two front teeth out.
We used to have a big barrel, we would turn it over, get up on it and walk/roll away we would go.
We would make mud pies and try our very best to get someone to eat them.
Every Christmas my dad would give us all a QUARTER!!!!! We were rich! We would take off to the little corner store and buy a whole bag of penny candy. You talk about some happy kids? Whew, there was nothing better than a bag of penny candy.

    • Hi Ree,it is so cool to know someone who loves her as much as I do!!! Woohoooooooooooo~!! And YES we do my friend! lol

lcmiddle,It sounds like although there wasn’t much money you had so much fun!  And I too loved going to the store to buy candy with my quarter! It was the things we “made up” that were the most fun for me. It sounds like it was for you as well.  Aren’t childhood memories just the best!!!!
