So, I decided to back and get my masters degree this year.  I am studying for a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership with a Human Resources graduate certificate.

Doesn’t sound like a big deal BUT I am also mother to a wonderful 4 year-old son and I work full-time for a non profit and I serve on the board of another non profit.

Am I crazy or what?

Is there anyone out there in a similar position?  Any advice how to keep this all in balance?

    • Trudy, you‘re busy, but not crazy!

I’m really hoping to achieve some of my goals within the next year or so (as planned) so that I can get back to school, too. I’m not in hot pursuit of a degree at this point, but there are some hard edges to my education that I would really like to round out.

As far as advise... well, I imagine you have a strong support system around you. If not, start building it, and then take advantage of the help available to you. Your time is valuable, so having friends or family to help with your little one while you need to hit the books will pay off in the end.

      Keep us posted!

    • Trudy,

Your definitely not crazy just very motivated. I have a degree in music but want to go back to school to get a degree in music therapy along with some ECE credits however, I’m afraid of getting back into financial debt again. I just finished paying off of my student loans in 2008 from my graduation in 1989 and not sure if I want that financial burden hanging over my head again.
However, in order to be able to work for myself, I know I’m going to have to do it.

Hang In There! Your a great inspiration to us all.

      Creatively yours,

      Gina Venturini

    • I went back to school in my mid 40’s.  Went to school mon-thurs and worked fulltime (every friday, sat, sun 12 hr shifts).  It was hard, but it was worth it.  Remember, noone can take away your education...it is so worth it!

    • Thank you all so much for your inspiring an supportive comments!  Some days I really question whether I made the right choice - I LOVE the new things I’m learning, but the road feels uphill sometimes.

When I am feeling this way I will come back and look at these comments!
