As a beauty consultant, I am constantly asked the same question by women in their 40's. "I can't wear the same products I wore twenty years ago, but I still want to look great! How can I look age appropriate while still stylish and glamorous?"

Well ladies, this is a valid and excellent question.

As we age, our skin begins to need more moisture, skin texture changes, fine lines can appear. To address these issues, it's important to treat our skin as it is now, versus how it's "always been."

Julie Christie, the talented actress and (glamour queen shown) above is the perfect example of elegant, age-appropriate and sexy!!!
Here are some key ways to keep yourself looking great in your 40's...and beyond!

1)Wash your face and remove makeup EVERY night before bed, no matter what. If you are someone who struggles with this, keep a package of makeup wipes next to your bed. Sleeping with your makeup on night after night can clog your pores, making them look larger and more susceptible to environmental damage.

2)Invest in a skincare program which includes a luxurious night cream, an eye cream and a daytime lotion with SPF. Giving your skin that necessary "drink of water" will reward you for decades to come!

3)Use a natural finish foundation that matches your skin. Heavy coverage foundations can make the skin look older and less radiant. Unless you are extremely oily, avoid a super matte finish as well. Youthful looking skin is radiant skin!

4)Use soft matte eyeshadows and blush colors. You can use shimmery enhancers but keep in mind that too much shimmer can draw attention to crepe-y areas and fine lines. Select shades which compliment your features, and don't be afraid to choose pops of color but use them sparingly. For instance, if teal is the hot shade for the season, instead of using it all over your eyelid, apply a teal eye pencil in the water line of the eye, for a subtle pop of color!

5)As a general rule of thumb, choose one feature to enhance with a bold color and keep the rest neutral. For instance if you do a dark, smoky eye then keep the cheeks and lips more neutral with shades closer to your skin tone.

6)HAVE FUN with it. Beauty is a reflection of who you are! Your face is the most visual way to express who yourself. You are a vibrant, elegant, sophisticated and beautiful woman with a multi-faceted and rich life! Embrace it....no matter how many years young you might be!

    • Thank you for the tips. I swear by taking off my make-up every night. It keeps me refreshed. No matter how tired i am i force myself to wash my face and brush my teeth.
