Why do I need to decrease my alcohol consumption while dieting? I don't drink but a few drinks a night on weekends any way.  

Alcohol suppresses your body's ability to burn fat. When you drink alcohol during a meal, your body burns fat more slowly than usual for several hours afterwards. Your body will use the alcohol for fuel rather than burn your fat for fuel and will be an easier source. Also, if you drink a lot, consider the fact that your liver is the center of fat metabolism and if you damage it, you are harming your fat burning machine!  Another factor to consider is that when someone drinks, they lower their inhibitions and thus their ability to resist snack. Not only are you not burning fat as efficiently, you usually are eating high carb snacks on top of it!

Why does my husband lose so much faster than I do when we diet together?
Well, don't make a bet with him! The most important factor of metabolism is lean body mass. Muscle burns up to 90% more calories than fat. The more muscle mass you have, the more calories you will burn in a day. In additon to muscle mass, hormones, cortisol levels, water fluctuations , and chocolate cravings can all hold women back in a way that men don't experience! A woman can increase her metabolism during a diet by simply adding a protein supplement to her diet like we do at Before and After Weight Loss. Protein provides the building blocks for muscle. Without adequate protein you may actually lose muscle. You need about .4 – .5 gram of protein per pound body weight. For a woman weighing 160 pounds she would need approximately 64 – 80 grams of protein daily. Our packets have about 12-15 each and come in delicious drinks, gelatins, soups and puddings. After you reach your goal weight, do weight bearing exercises to keep your weight down and maintain easier. By adding three to five pounds of muscle you could actually burn 100 – 250 additional calories a day.
