Get Ready To Show Off

For the next several months, more of your skin will be seen than at any other time of year.  Keep it looking and feeling its best by starting now with some simple body and foot care.

Tip   - Clean out your skin care product and cosmetics drawers. Check the expiration dates – they don't last forever. If there's no date on that favorite lipstick or eye shadow and they're older than 6 months, it's time to replace them. Try to replace each with a skin care or makeup product that contains beneficial ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, seaweed, essential oils and definitely SPF 15 or higher.

Springtime Body And Foot Care Recipes

An important step in any spring skin care routine is exfoliation. Using an exfoliating scrub will help eliminate rough skin left over from winter. Grapefruit is a common ingredient in body scrubs, but most manufacturers often use grapefruit oil instead of the actual fruit.

Grapefruit And Sugar Body Scrub

Combine the following ingredients in a blender, and process until mixed thoroughly -

1 grapefruit – including the pith and some of the skin pre-chopped into small bits

1/2 cup of brown sugar

1 cup of sea salt for detoxification

1/2 cup of olive or coconut oil

Weekly Before Your Shower - Massage the mixture onto your body using circular motions and working up towards the heart. Leave the scrub on for a few minutes to allow for absorption, rinse off thoroughly with warm water, then do a quick rinse with cold water to increase circulation.  Now shower as usual.

Finish with a good splash of witch hazel head to toe and apply a body lotion that contains aloe vera, lavender, or essential oils.   Use an SPF 15 on top of the lotion if it does not already provide sun protection.

Note – You can leave this scrub on for 30 minutes or longer if you want a deeper treatment.  Simply create a space to lay down by spreading out towels on a bed and putting on soft music or sounds of nature to create  a Home Spa atmosphere.  Chilled cucumber slices on your eyes is a great plus.

Herbal Foot Soak

Dried Herbs  - 1 teaspoon each of comfrey, lavender, rosemary, heather, pine, chamomile and peppermint.

Make an infusion by soaking the herbs in a basin of warm water for about 20 minutes.  Add more warm water and soak your feet for 20 to 30 minutes. Use a pumice or foot file to remove rough skin, and wash your feet with fresh water and a bit of fragrant body wash.

Towel dry thoroughly and apply a foot cream that includes peppermint, aloe vera or lavender as ingredients.

Do this once per week or more depending on what your skin needs.
