I realize that Boss’s Day was Tuesday I believe but my question is do you honor your boss on that day? Is it a day of importantance to you? Are you a Boss? Have you been honored? I ask these questions because I never thought of “Boss’s Day” until the honor was bestowed upon me.

I was off Tuesday Oct 16. But when I returned to work the next day Oct 17th, I was met with a pleasant surprise. My team surprised me with the most elaborate heartfelt luncheon that had been hand prepared and thoughtfully planned.

What I received was a home cooked meal that had been personally prepared from all of my favorite dishes. I don’t know if you like southern cooking but if you do then you know it is definitely cooked with love when it is prepared properly. The meal consisted of: greens prepared with turkey, baked chicken and gravy, corn bread muffins, baked macaroni cheese, black eyed peas, iced tea with ice cream and cake.

A table was nicely decorated with glassware (plates and glasses, unusual at work) when the norm is paper products on a purple table cloth (my favoarite color) with a hershey chocolate center piece (made of hershey chocolate bars with hershey kisses in the base of it).

The card was beautiful. I was so stunned that I was at a loss for words but I thanked each and everyone of them personally. Top Administration personnell were invited and they gladly accepted. I was the talk of the office but as it would seem my team was the only one that participated in “Boss’s Day“.

Once everything had been cleaned up, I took a moment to reflect and realized that what I contribute to my team does matter. Although I may not have recieved a raise this year or the last due to budget constraints (so they say) but what I have recieved is respect and appreciation from my current team-members. That is priceless during a time when giving of yourself may not be so popular these days. I am one to go above and beyond for my team and customers. I use to think no one cares so why do it, now I know someone does care and I have challenged myself do more.

All in all it was a letter perfect day. I am a government service personnell and I now feel appreciated ....happy

    • What an honor to be bestowed upon you! You certainly  deserved it because  your team showed their appreciation by preparing a “meal made with love“.  What a delicious menu!

As a retired teacher, we always honored our principal at that time on Boss’s Day.  I was privileged to have some great bosses during my career.

    • Wow, how wonderful to be honored! You must be an awesome boss who treats employees w/ respect and appreciation.

It’s unfortunate that Boss’s Day is not highly publicized. Our new boss would have been honored if we have known.

Congrats - we need more bosses like you!

    • How wonderful!  You really must be a special boss.  I’ve only had one or two who I would have gone to that sort of effort for.

I did not know it was bosses day or might have organized a little something for my boss, taken him to subway for lunch or something.  He’s not the brightest boss, but he’s a nice guy who doesn’t get enough respect.

    • Thanks, ladies! It is my policy to “treat people the way I would like to be treated” so when I found that my team appreaciated it, it made my year!! It just reenforces my belief that the little things go a loong way.
