For years, collagen creams have been available for skin care. While they‘re often advertised as a solution for rebuilding the collagen fibers underneath your epidermal layers, collagen creams don’t have the ability to do this. While they can play an important role in effective skin care, it’s worth noting what functions these creams can and cannot perform.

The Myth Of Collagen Penetration

Collagen is a structural protein created in your dermis, just below the skin’s top layer. It provides both support and elasticity for your skin. As we age, the production of collagen diminishes. Over time, the collagen fibers within your skin deteriorate. Without new collagen production, your skin can begin to look worn and brittle.

While some skin care product manufacturers imply that the collagen in creams and serums can penetrate skin to build new fibers, it just isn’t possible for this to happen. The collagen molecule is just too large. That being said, collagen-based products can still have a positive effect on your skin as a moisturizing agent.

Collagen For Skin Moisturization

Skin care products that use a collagen formula can moisturize your skin and prevent excess loss of moisture due to sun exposure. This can help your skin look youthful and vibrant without the need for heavy oil-based products. So, collagen containing products can be a very helpful solution for moisturization. But, collagen isn’t the only moisturizing solution; there are many others on the market that can provide relief as well.

Effective Skin Moisturizers

Your skin can easily become dry and dehydrated due to prolonged exposure to the sun and the elements. Consider the following products which have been designed to help battle dryness:
