In the past week I’ve taught 2 chocolate making classes. The first one was a surprise birthday gift from one sister to another. The neat thing about that was the way one sister found me. She lives in London and the rest of her family lives in Canada. They were all coming to Maui for a wedding. The london sister googled Maui Chocolatiers to find someone to teach her sister, who loves chocolate, a class. She found my blog, contacted me by e-mail, we set a time and a price and they were here this past Tuesday. The birthday sister had a blast working with chocolate for a couple of hours and making her own truffles to take with her. The London sister took lots of pictures. We all had so much fun.

The second class was yesterday with six ladies in my community. I set a lesson plan and offered a discounted price so I could practice teaching. We made six different confections; milk chocolate almond clusters sprinkled with Hawaiian sea salt, firm chocolate truffles rolled in cocoa powder, cinnamon and sugar, moulded truffles with espresso filling, macadamia nut buttercream piped into chocolate cups, solid chocolate hearts infused with flavor oils and white chocolate curry butter truffles piped onto chocolate discs. Everyone had a lot of fun and there was a nice variety of goodies for everyone to take home in large boxes I provided complete with tissue paper and ribbon.

So now I have the teaching bug. Teaching chocolate classes has always been in my master plan for my business, especially as my wrist breaks down from piping fillings all these years.

Has anyone taken classes of this type? If so, I’d love to hear comments, suggestions and sharing of your experience.
