OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW,
TIME TO CLEANSE AND FEEL THE NEW YOU

Every year we pass through the holiday season hopefully enjoying indulgences with friends, family, and co-workers.  As the new year approaches we may set a few worthy goals for ourselves that include improving our health, wealth, and relationships.  I have just read Oprah's goals for 2009 being that she desires to achieve her optimal health that will not be judged by a scale.  I wholeheartedly agree with this approach and my entire practice is one that focuses on helping women and men achieve optimal health.

The first thing I usually recommend my patients to do is a healthy balanced nutritional detox program.  Here are some rules for detoxification/cleansing the body to improve your health.  I have had several hundred patients go through my cleansing program and I usually preface by telling them "You will hate me day three, and love me day 10" because it is amazing how well you will feel, but the initial days are hard.  This is a great way to start the new year and we wish you a happy and healthy one!

RULES OF THE ROAD...  

NO WHEAT, NO SWEET, NO RED MEAT, NO DAIRY

Use organic and free range products to reduce exogenous toxins and hormones.

Drink 1 cup of hot water with ¼ lemon and 2 pinches of cayenne pepper first thing upon waking (on an empty stomach).  

Drink ½ your weight in filtered water (i.e. you weigh 130 lbs. drink 65 oz of water per day; more if increased exercise or sauna use).

Water should be consumed up to 20 minutes before meals and resumed 1-2 hours after meals so that your stomach acid can digest your food. (Too much fluid dilutes the acid)

Chew each food bite 32 times!

Walk 20 minutes each day.

Do not eat after 8 p.m.

Buy organic fruits, vegetables and meats when possible

Eliminate coffee, alcohol, wine and refined sugars

You need an "oil" change.  Use 2 tablespoons of olive, or nut oils each day.

Stopping antacids: drink 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (with the mothers wort, i.e. unfiltered) each day.  Can use in a.m. or with meals.

Be prepared!  Plan meals in advance

If constipation or diarrhea, add a probiotic and extra fiber.  You should have at least 2 bowel movements per day

Use additional detox support.  We use a detox medical food shake to intensify the process and achieve even better results.  There is info on my website at [Link Removed]  

Remember 'Enjoy breakfast like a king, lunch like a nobleman, and dinner like a pauper'  

Check urinary and salivary pH and keep an alkaline diet (ideal 80% Alkaline, 20% Acidic)

Detoxification Support also includes:  

Take a warm bath with Epsom salt added to soothe, relax and detox.  You may rub on the salt with a warm, wet washcloth in the shower or bath.
Steam baths – alternating hot to cold, use loofah brush to invigorate the skin
Infrared sauna
Colonic hydrotherapy
Massage – deep tissue and lymphatic
Clay wrap/detox body treatments and facials
Meditation and prayer
Journaling
Set forth positive intentions and goals

Sample Start
On Rising
Large glass of warm water (with lemon juice, +/- pinch of cayenne pepper)
Probiotic
Exercise
30-40 minutes of cardio 5 times per week or burst exercises;
20- 30 minutes of weight bearing exercise 2 to 3 times a week

Breakfast
Detox shake mixed with Pomegranate or Cranberry juice and water
Salad with rice or quinoa and nuts and ground flaxseed
Morning supplements
Mid morning
Nothing for 1½ - 2 hours then drink regular small amounts of pure water totaling one liter before lunchtime
A cup or two of herbal tea or green drink is optional

Lunch
Organic chicken or vegetable patties (eg. Lentil, walnut or chickpea), hummus
Fresh salad with raw vegetables, sprouts, nuts
Gluten free crackers

Mid Afternoon
Drink another liter of pure water
Dinner – light meal (suggestions)
Detox protein shake
Vegetable sticks with quacamole or hummus
Homemade soup
Fresh salad
Lightly steamed or stir fried vegetables
Dinner supplements

After Dinner
Fresh vegetable juice,  water or green drink
