This week were started the annual share-a thon of holiday and comfort dishes.  My first one is my crockpot split pea soup:

Crockpot Split Pea Soup

1/2 lb split peas, rinsed and sorted
1 med onion, chopped fine
2 medium-sized carrots, finely chopped
2 stalks celery, finely chopped.
1 quart chicken stock
1 pint guinness (yes, beer)
2 C water
1/2-1 tsp freshly ground pepper
1 tsp kosher salt
1 good-sized ham hock or a good-sized ham bone
1-2 C chopped ham  

Simply put all the ingredients into a 5-6 quart crockpot and put it on low for about 10 hours.

This is great with some toasted artisan bread or some freshly baked muffins.

As we get closer to the holidays-I'd really love it if everyone would share their favorite recipes that have a bit of a twist to them or a different presentation.
