Crime Rates Declining  

Crime rates are down across the country this year, with declines of more than 10 percent in some major cities and even bigger dips in murder rates. But that isn't stopping our elected representatives and political candidates from spreading fear that the recession will lead to an increase in crime. Criminal Justice blogger Matt Kelley looks at how the issue of crime is playing out in electoral contests around the country and argues that candidates for public office should realize that exaggerating the threat of crime in public doesn't make anyone safer.
