I pray about everything—daily. I believe that I don't have all the answers, so I go to someone greater and wiser than me who does. I personally believe that God is concerned about every area of our lives. Marriage, children, jobs, problems, health, finances, and anything else we think that is or is not important. I tend to practice what I preach. If I'm not living it then I'm not going to talk about it. So to talk about prayer and my finances, well they just go hand-in-hand, really.

This weekend we discovered our car had electrical problems. We were certain the repair bill would be at least a thousand. Before my husband took the car in we prayed, with our daughter, for an honest service person. And that the bill wouldn't be over $200. Three hours later when we got the estimate it was for $133. Since we can't get our car until Tuesday, we had to get a rental car for two days. The cost of the rental car is $66.70. I also learned a very valuable tip; our Marriott Visa covers comprehension, collision, theft, and liability insurance if you pay with Visa.  That tip saved us a minimum of $16.95 a day. When everything was tallied up the total cost for the repair and rental car was $199.70. I couldn't have arranged that "miracle" if I tried.

Also, right after I hung up with the rental car company, an email came in asking me if I was interested in doing some work for a couple of hours. The couple hours of work, almost paid for the whole repair and car rental bill. I completed the work today, and already invoiced the client – Yeah!

It was prayer that gave my husband and I the wisdom, self-control, and direction to eliminate all our debt and pay off our home in less than 5-years. We prayed in unity for our financial vision, employment, and to know what lifestyle changes we needed to make to reach our financial goal. Through prayer I was told to sell $20,000 worth of stock to make one of the final payments on our home. God literally told me to watch CNN and when the stock reached $69 a share to go and sell $20,000 worth. I remember waiting all day for the stock to change. I was starting to doubt if I had heard correctly. But at 3:00 p.m. the stock reached $69 a share. I sat there thinking, if it reaches $70 I'll make more money, but then a voice said no $69. I ran to the phone and immediately sold $20,000 worth. Then I ran back to the couch. The stock immediately started dropping, and within a few days it was in the 40's. I would have never known in a million years to sell the stock, and certainly at what price. To this day, the stock has never reached $69 a share. That was January, 1999. We paid off our first home March 1, 1999.

I have hundreds of other amazing financial stories through prayer. But what about you, do you believe prayer can change your finances?

    • I do believe prayers can change my finances
Providing I have an open mind
to accept what God has installed for me in His Divine.

I once purchased a raffle ticket from a church in a poor neighborhood,
I had only $1 and all I got was one ticket in advance
My husband and I were to attend the festival
Right on that day, our air conditioner broke in a hot summer
yet we had no money to fix it
My husband said, “Wouldn’t it be nice if we won that lottery, that will be $1000.”
I said, “That would be nice but perhaps someone is in need of that $1000 more than we do. Why don’t we just pray a Hail Mary and Let God decide.”
To make the story short, we won and I guess in God’s eyes at that time, we were poorest of the poor.

    • Yes! I have many stories also. I grew up living next door to my grandma and I know that God used to speak to her and tell her when to give me money. She liked to periodically call me over to her house and hand me an envelope with money in it “just because she loved me“. My grandma was my best friend but I never told her when I was in need of money. She somehow knew just when I needed it, & she would call me over. I don’t believe in coincidence, I BELIEVE IN GOD!

    • Yes. Not the begging type of prayer, but the powerful intention and belief-in-receiving type of prayer.

    • This is a really interesting question.

I don’t think that prayer can affect money/finances specifically. I believe that our monetary system is man-made, therefore, we give it value - not God. Money is really nothing more than paper and some metal.  But I do believe that prayer and belief and openness affects ABUNDANCE.  For some, that abundace comes in the form of strength or wisdom and so on. Maybe for others it comes through money, as a conduit. The way that the Spirit is a conduit.  Money to me is truly valuable because it represents life energy. We give up time - our lives - to earn it, manage it, spend it. That makes it almost sacred to me...and therefore, I feel charity is very important.  Maybe the money that came from prayer was to allow you to keep doing good things : so money wasn’t the end all - it was a doorway.

A few years ago I was fortunate enough to spend a couple of weeks deep in the Amazon jungle in Brazil.  We were 900 miles from the closest “civilization” - and we met a small, indigenous  family ( about 8 people ) living there. You know, like you see on National Geographics. They had no concept of money, no house, no clothes, nothing. But they were very interested in my husband’s fishing hooks. That was the most valuable thing that they thought we had. ( We left them all the hooks we had and they thought we were crazy to give up such valuables !!! I was able to communicate with them because I speak their language. )  God somehow provided them with abundance of hooks and God provided me with the abundance of language to speak to them.  Money would have meant nothing in the situation - no matter how much I prayed for it. Amazing.

I believe that prayers are not answered simply for our own personal needs, but rather to give us something to go out into the world with.

I Love this blog by the way !!!

    • Wow...I love your story and I love the way you think. I do agree too, that money comes for us to impart, sow, and bless others.

      Great answer!

    • Thank you Sharmanl, coming from you, this is a great compliment !!!

I keep that experience very close to my heart and soul.

On a funnier note, considering how hot and sunny it was, I wanted to give the family sunblock ( I am a sunblock freak ) and clothes - and they thought I was a nut - wanting to rub cream on them and their baby !!!!!   The really amazing thing was that we didn’t plan to bring hooks, my husband brought them so he could kill some time since there was nothing else to do out there !

Lots of blessings and abundance to you , Sharmanl, so that you can continue your great work !!!!!!
