Do you feed your Ego?
You may or may not have taken college psychology, but, I am quite sure we have all heard of the phrase “ego“. Its conceptually understood as a something that gives a boost to persons self-esteems; ego can also be thought of as something that make us feel important in our life; as it is one of many incentive of being a human living in today’s world. We all want to help, because, helping others or do a good deed which make us feel accomplished, by doing this we providing food to your ego. More you feed it, hungrier it gets; am not say stop helping other, whenever you can do help, but watch your self how you feel after you have helped someone. Do you feel a sense of accomplishment? Do you feel happy? If yes, then you are feeding your ego. Yoga teaches us to help others also, but with a slight twist. When in the mind set of yoga,one must feel indifferent after they have helped others. If you can’t do this then, realizing this and practicing it will be your first step towards yoga. Interesting experience happened to me today while stuck in traffic. Due to construction, traffic was moving slow as expected, and further down the two lane highway was merging into one lane, and cars were frantically trying to go from left to right lane. I slowly sneaked my self into the right lane, and started to move with the slow moving traffic. Suddenly I noticed many cars trying to merge and the ahead lane was getting narrower and narrower, so I let may be 8-10 cars go in front of me; all of a sudden I felt a strange sense of joy, It was the joy of helping someone, letting others go ahead of me. That is when I realize that I shouldn’t be happy, instead I should be indifferent, not feeling happy or sad. We should accomplish every task in our life with this thought, if you can be indifferent and complete a task you are moving in with the right mind set in life. This yoga info should be practiced in your daily life.
