    • Hi,
Yes, I lie about my age with cyberdating because most men desire women in the age range of 18-35. Once, I meet the guy in person and find him attractive, I inform him. With employment, I only indicate my age accurately with application paperwork. With discrimination rampant, it’s not surprising that women hide their age or feel insecure about it.
Our society treats women and men differently as they age. All the cosmetic ads always target women regarding wrinkles, age spots, smile lines, hair coloring, etc. Men are viewed as more distinguished looking with graying hair and crowsfeet. Men are not judged dating someone 10-20 younger. Whereas, women are depicted as cougars that stalk younger men.
Someday, I hope the situation improves for women over 40. The age stigma has been around for a long time and we just have to deal with it. It would be wonderful if society embraced us with reverance and wisdom as the Native Americans do within their culture. Consequently, we would not have to lie about our age!

Yet I don’t lie or keep a secret.  Guess I go against the family grain, but hey I’m good with it.
Besides, I’ve been told often I don’t look my age, but younger. There have been instances where it was a little annoying, so I don’t hold back or keep secret.

I am not dating, I have been married for almost 20 years. If I were dating I still would not lie about my age. If someone only judges me by my age I would not be interested in them. If you lie to them at first to date them, and then they find out you lied, they may not be interested in you because you lied!
To lie about your age on a job application is not ethical, is it even legal to do so???
Be up front and honest in all that you do, it is the only course.

When I turned 30, I turned to my Mom and told her that she could no longer say she was 29 or people are really going to talk!!!

At 73 years of age, she is still saying that she is 29.  She could almost pass for that age though because of our young genes. :)

I personally have eyes, and after working in healthcare for so long am a pretty good judge of age within a couple of years, anyway.

It is just a practice of futile ignorance.

    • Thanks TallRose for being honest.  I really and truly believe that women are discriminated against based on age and like the guy says, if you tell the truth you can’t go to the next step.  It’s just a fact...plain and simple that men prefer younger women and jobs are harder to get when you are older.  Of course in theory it sounds good to be honest and to tell the truth, but if it means never dating or never getting employment...what good does that good? I think if we could just get over the whole age thing period then things would be okay.
