Are you honest about your age? Or is it "circumstantial"?
More Magazine's Lesley Jane Seymour and dating coach Evan Marc Katz battle it out- what's your take?
Hey
I liked this because it showed different viewpoints. I have done it before (confession time!) Barb : )
Hi,
Yes, I lie about my age with cyberdating because most men desire women in the age range of 18-35. Once, I meet the guy in person and find him attractive, I inform him. With employment, I only indicate my age accurately with application paperwork. With discrimination rampant, it’s not surprising that women hide their age or feel insecure about it.
Our society treats women and men differently as they age. All the cosmetic ads always target women regarding wrinkles, age spots, smile lines, hair coloring, etc. Men are viewed as more distinguished looking with graying hair and crowsfeet. Men are not judged dating someone 10-20 younger. Whereas, women are depicted as cougars that stalk younger men.
Someday, I hope the situation improves for women over 40. The age stigma has been around for a long time and we just have to deal with it. It would be wonderful if society embraced us with reverance and wisdom as the Native Americans do within their culture. Consequently, we would not have to lie about our age!
Never! I love and celebrate each and every year that I am blessed with.

No, we were taught not to lie. So that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
My mom always said, “woman shouldn’t tell age” and she and other family joke about “birth-anniversaries“.
Yet I don’t lie or keep a secret. Guess I go against the family grain, but hey I’m good with it.
Besides, I’ve been told often I don’t look my age, but younger. There have been instances where it was a little annoying, so I don’t hold back or keep secret.
Life is a journey, so enjoy it.
Cheers to our journey

No, I am 51 and I do not lie about my age. I did when I was a young teenage and wanted to be older though!
I am not dating, I have been married for almost 20 years. If I were dating I still would not lie about my age. If someone only judges me by my age I would not be interested in them. If you lie to them at first to date them, and then they find out you lied, they may not be interested in you because you lied!
To lie about your age on a job application is not ethical, is it even legal to do so???
Be up front and honest in all that you do, it is the only course.
i lied about being older when i was younger. now no need to lie

Never!!! I would never be able to remember what age I told whom I was! LMAO
The truth is so much easier to keep up with!! LOL
LOL...me too Termagsea! Never have lied but few people guess my age. Have a lifetime of no sunbathing and no makeup to thank for that.
Absolutely not! I never lie about my age. I’m proud of how old I am. Of course, it helps that I don’t “look” my age. :)

Hi,
No, I never lie about my age, but in certain instances I just withhold the information!
In my head I do! But I tell everyone else the truth, in hopes that they will say, “You‘re 42!? No way!” So far, no takers LOL
Lol...Funny story...
When I turned 30, I turned to my Mom and told her that she could no longer say she was 29 or people are really going to talk!!!
At 73 years of age, she is still saying that she is 29. She could almost pass for that age though because of our young genes. :)

No, but I SHOULD since I’m Fab40 and then some! As my Grandmother used to say when I’d ask her, I’m “too old”

I have in the past. 45 is such a wonderful place to be for me, no need to lie anymore.
*Lcm*
I do not lie about my age! I feel compelled to celebrate my age and everything I am learning CAUSED by it! I love where I am AT in my age! I can tap into reflection and preception right now and it FABULOUS!!!
Thanks for asking!
Never! As most of the women here....I am proud of my age. I am thankful to the Lord for every year I am alive...why should I lie?? God is good! He has been so good to me for 56 years, I want to go on praising Him for my life!
No! Why should I
I am 52 and I look great and feel great...my Mom is going to be 76 in 2 weeks, still works, travels and loves life..I know I will look great and feel great at her age too!
I don’t lie about my age, but I do avoid telling it as much as possible
No, I’ve never lied about my age. I’ve always been told I look younger than what I am which makes me happy to hear. I am 40 now and I am learning to love it and believe that forty is fabulous!!
No...I never lie about my age. I feel better today then I ever have. When people find out I am 45 they allway say I don’t look my age. That is such a great compliment to me :)
Those who discriminate based on age are purely ignorant and show their ignorance when they participate in that discrimination. People who lie about their age keep the cycle of discrimination going against growing older.
I personally have eyes, and after working in healthcare for so long am a pretty good judge of age within a couple of years, anyway.
It is just a practice of futile ignorance.
No way - but when I tell them they still think I’m lying! I am blessed with good genes - neither of my parents look their ages either.
I don’t tell my age unless asked and I never lie. That is because I am almost 45 and I look much much younger. So I like to use it as a surprise when people ask, but I don’t put it out there. Ultimately it is just a number and age is a state of mind. I look and feel better than I did when I was 30!
No - I don't lie about my age! I'm 59.
Brava for raising the question! No one would defend sexism or racism yet we promote ageism every day. We promote it outright or by omission.
Thanks again to us boomers for pushing through another glass ceiling!

Thanks TallRose for being honest. I really and truly believe that women are discriminated against based on age and like the guy says, if you tell the truth you can’t go to the next step. It’s just a fact...plain and simple that men prefer younger women and jobs are harder to get when you are older. Of course in theory it sounds good to be honest and to tell the truth, but if it means never dating or never getting employment...what good does that good? I think if we could just get over the whole age thing period then things would be okay.
I never lie about my age. I am a very honest upfront person, because people are gonna find out later anyway. I don’t like when people lie to me either. Besides, I think I look my age more now anyway. I wouldn’t want to be with anyone who didn’t like me for who I really am.
By the way, I am 44, soon to be 45.
Rhonda
I never lie about my age. I will be 47 in September and I am always told Ilook younger than that.
I never lie about my age. I don’t see the point in it. Besides I hate it when people lie! I may color my hair to look younger but I’ve earned every one of my gray hairs and at 44 I’m entering some of the best years of my life!!
Charlotte
Honestly, I never thought I would live past 30, so to be 45 now is a bonus! I don’t lie about my age, although I do color my hair.
My mom is 68 and says she’s 39. She has to tell people I’m 23. My brother is 52 so she stopped explaining him years ago! I’m working hard to make this time in my life the best so I’m actually stunned and proud to be still here!
Fab40 Rules!!!!

I don’t see a reason to lie about my age. I’m not embarrassed nor am I ashamed of it. In fact, I’m loving my 40s. What would I gain by lying? I just don’t see the purpose of it.

It took a lot of living and surviving to get to 58. I am proud to be this age and getting only better. Still I haven’t needed to look for a job so who knows what will happen if I did. Then again, I have faced sexism, racism and all other ignorant behaviors in the past. Ageism is just another aspect of ignorance and prejudice.
