I decided i needed to finally lose some weight. Menopause finally had got the better of me, and i wasnt happy looking at myself in the mirror, so low carb to the rescue..WHY low carb ? cos it works for this old gal, I have used atkins twice before in my life, and both times i felt great. Most of my life i had been either semi vegetarian OR complete veggie tarian!..But then i came to the states and well ...Mc Donalds on every corner and that all went out the window and on to my hips and thighs. So here i am day 3 on low carb, i used to never eat breakfast, or lunch, and for the life of me could not lose weight! i didnt over eat in the evening, i even kept a food diary and logged calories and lived on less than 900 cals a day! but still couldnt lose weight unless i starved! the doc even gave me a weight loss plan..I GAINED! LOL..so here i am eating 3 meals a day and losing weight, already my tummy doesnt look like i am 6 months pregnant! having always taken care of myself UNTIL now, it is hard to know why the pounds packed on..( although i had been jogging prior to my pain  and subsequent surgery this past year and had lost 16lbs! that had started to creep back on) So here i am dieting...eventually i want to go back to being veggie! i felt great had less colds and flus ( have only had the flu 4 times in my life!) so that is my goal. I realised i had a lot of will power today when my sons friend stuck a cinnamon roll under my nose! telling  me how GOOOD it tasted and DID i want one....NOPE! i am proud of myself, i always try to stick to my guns, and i have decided to atkins for the month of October, what i do after that ( probably dive into a huge vat of chocolate ) is anyones guess at this point! So i am off to make myself some scrambled eggs, with cheese, and mushrooms and MORE CHEESE!!!estatic  please dont tell me how bad that is for me it tastes sooooooooooo good. I have also given up DIET COKE.....and am on day 9 of that, i am drinking water and so far dont have a craving even though there is a whole 2liter sitting in the fridge, trying to tempt me every time i open the door to take out some form of animal protien to eat...where does the will power come from i wonder...well i think it comes from discipline, really wanting to lose these excess pounds. I have gone from this slim , athletic, always on the go , body building gal to this old woman with FLAB... so under the flab is a FAB body just dying to be worked again!...at almost 47 i just have one thing to say to me...you go girl, find that woman you once were.

    • LOL! I love your outlook. I too have had success with atkins in the past however i was cranky as all get out! I think it was the carb restrictions and I had to do the even lower amount of carbs to get it going.
      Now I know you probably know that atkins isn’t actually the best...Have you considered trying The South Beach?
      Either way I am wishing you great success and just know that you are FABULOUS no matter what!

    • i did try south beach but didnt lose one single pound! i do slowly increase more veggies on the atkins. Really if i cut out sugar and white crappy bread! LOL, and junk food ( i,m married to a junk food junkie ) id be fine, but my hubby is one of those men who likes to sabatage any weight loss by buying candy! his hearts in the right place he thinks i am going to starve to death if i dont eat! So i havent told him this time! SNEAKY I KNOW! although he wondered why i didnt eat lasagna last night and i told him i just fancied an omelete instead! though i did lick the spoon..then realised what i had done and spat it out LOL..to which he said ” are you okay“..got to be more careful cant have him running to the store for chocolate or worse chocolate milk..then its all over!

      I just read in the magazine First for women about a diet called crack the fat code....you carb up one day then carb down the next... it sounded interesting...
      I was going to try to find a link but I only could find mag subscriptions...

    • Good luck to you!  I’m glad you found something that works for YOU!  I did the Atkins once too.  I lost but as my cardiologist put it..I must have gone on the “bad” Atkins ...because it sent my cholesterol out of the roof!!  

      I think for all of us..we have to do what works for yourself.  We are all different...what works for one person might not work for another!  I truly wish you all the best with your weight loss.  It is very hard! happy

    • Thanks Mary, and Vikki, i kind of do my own variation of atkins! i eat low carb some days then eat nothing but fruits and veggies another day! Now saturday i decided that i was going to get ALL my carb allowance from CHOCOLATE RAISONS! LOL...a diet isnt a diet IF YOU CANT CHEAT! Like i said to my hubby its not that i CANT have it , its that i have chosen at this time NOT to have it! i may or may not lose weight at this rate but i am at least enjoying myself, but so far i have lost 3lbs! AND lets face it , who actually eats a healthy diet, if i was to begin with i wouldnt have gained weight huh, so blah, this has got to be healthier than pigging out on fast food crud 24/7 !

    • Good luck Term, like any diet dont be religeous about it, other wise you wont stick to it, play with it , mess it up a little and find what works for you, like i said on the Atkins your not supposed to eat CHOCOLATE RASINS BUT i had such a craving for them that i gave in and ate them and counted that as my carbs for the day! I think anything that helps you lose weight and still enjoy life cant be all bad, everything in moderation really is the key and EXERCISE....i wish there was a magic pill, or even a specific diet...AND THERE IS..its called eat right and exercise..it just doesnt sound much fun! LOL, and i think the whole calories thing is way off....it used to be that a woman needed to eat 1200 cals a day..and to lose weight you went UNDER that amount...now they say 2000+ cals a day AND THEY WONDER WHY WE ARE ALL GETTING FAT..its a lie unless your a body builder, no one needs 2000 cals a day, not even men..( 1800 it used to be for them).
