Good eating isn’t wasted on the young...thank god!  As I enter my 40’s (yesterday) intuitively I know 40 is not old, it’s the prime of life, however, it is certainly a time for making smarter food choices, appreciating finer flavors and listening to what your body REALLY needs. Instead of gobbling up needless calories, smart 40-something eaters do this:

1) Pay attention to hunger and fullness - no longer do you just eat to eat, but you think about if you‘re hungry or not.  Also, you don’t leave the table with that uncomfortable belly bulge—as you know the next meal or snack is not far behind.

2) Manage late night munchies with a handful of nuts, a cup of low-fat yogurt or a brown rice cake with a tablespoon of almond butter.

3) Don’t drink their calories.  By this time you have managed to say goodbye to (or seldom choose) sugar and fat-laden coffee drinks, fruity cocktails (except when you are in warm, sunny vacations), and regular soft drinks. Since studies have shown that we don’t skimp on solid food after drinking high-calorie beverages, it’s important to choose no to low-calorie drinks to manage your 40 + waistline.

So the bottom line is savor your food for more satisfaction with fewer calories.
