This morning around 9am I let my dogs out to go potty before I left the house. My hubby always calls me on his morning break just to say hi. While I was talking to him on the phone, I looked out the window to watch my two dogs and said to him, wow, Morgan (our Golden) seems awfully spooked for some reason so I called the dogs in. I left it at that and we hung up.
At 9:20 I was leaving for work, I had a huge load of shop towels in my hand in a laundry bag, I asked my youngest daughter (16yo) if she would be shut and lock the door for me because the towels were so heavy, I could hardly get out the door with them let alone shut the door too. When I walked out our door into the garage (attatched by a breezeway), I noticed that my car tail lights, head lights and dome lights were on. I thought, wow...did I hit a button on my remote?? I proceeded into the garage and opened the back hatch, threw the load of towels that I was taking to the salon in the very back. I shut the hatch and walked around to the drivers door. All the while I had a really uneasy feeling. I looked (as I always do) into the back seat, nope no one was there. I got into the car and quickly shut and locked the door. I just had a feeling!! I started my car and looked into the rear view mirror and my very back window flipped open. HUH?? I got back out again to shut it, hurryed up and got back into the car locked the doors, by this time I’m really freaked out. I calmed myself down, left the house and after a few minutes forgot all about what had just happened.
About two hours later, my youngest came into my salon and asked, Mom, were you in my car this morning?? (she parks her car outside) I said no WHY?? Then the events played out in my head again. It was then that I realized what had happened! We were broken into. The thieves ended up with my daughters emergency gas money, they broke into our camper and took some cash that I had in there. Maggie’s doors were locked ( a habit that she has, always lock the doors). The police said they must have had a tool to break into her car. I probably interrupted them while they were getting into my car because if they had left earlier the car lights would have turned off in 15 seconds. They were probably still in my garage when I went in there to go to work this morning. They were probably hiding. After I pulled out, they got the heck out of there. Scarry!!! Even the policeman who took the report said what a scarry thought that they were most likely still in there when I walked in!
I thank God that all they got off with was a little cash. They could have very easily took the opportunity of me not being there (watching me leave) and get into our house where both my children were, home alone!!
What is this world coming to??
Even thought they did not come into my home, I still feel so violated and uneasy!! Ugh...

    • Thanks everyone. Yes, it was very scarey, especially after I sat and thought about it more. I’m just so thankful that it ended up the way it did!

We actually do have ADT signs that are very visible as you walk up to my back door. We also have the stickers on our doors. But the garage that I park my car in is very old, the doors are very old and even though they call it an attatched garage, it really isnt connected to the house. Just connected by a breezeway, so the theives most likey realize that the ADT system doesnt secure that garage.
We are all on edge and our senses have been heightened. Maybe it was a good thing that this little scare happened. We are all more aware now. I have been on my girls about sleeping with their bedroom windows open and leaving the doors locked in the house even during the day. Now that this has happened, they are following the rules!!

    • Cant be too safe.  I used to think George was a bit over the edge with this stuff.  He really is right. Keep the doors shut and locked and the windows.  When our doorbell rings, we open the window a crack to see who it is before we open it.  A girl I work with with had her face broken about twomonths from a home invasion.  Sad but true that people have the audacity to invade a home.

    • Thanks Linda,
      I do feel very lucky.
The more I talk to people, the more I have an idea who it was. But proving it is another story.
He know’s he did it, and now he has to live with his sorry self. He’s an idiot who beats his wife and kids, was put in jail, got out and is now living in a shed at his friends house! Can we say L O S E R??? He actually choked his step son to the point that the poor kid passed out, all because the idiot was pushing the mother around and he tried to stop him.
