In about 10 days, I’m going to take possession of my grandsons for a couple of weeks.  Well, almost a couple of weeks-the “other” grandma swears she’s going to have them over on her days off.  That’s supposedly Sundays and Mondays.

My husband will be leaving on a business trip on the same day the kids begin their stay.

No, that part was a surprise-so I’m starting the shopping and such right now.

In fact, I had a 20% off coupon for Big Lots-my favorite store next to Costco.  I stored up on things like the boys favorite breakfast cereals, juices, crackers, bubble mix, chalk-all the finer stuff to which I can somewhat insure a good time.

Oh, and two “Junior Reporter” badges.  Didn’t buy those, just got some name tags out and drew those.  They’ll be “helping” me cover Grandparents Day the city known as Laguna Woods.

As for dinners-while I don’t eat mac and cheese, I’ll be making it for them.  My daughter warned me to just buy a box of the “gourmet” version of the blue box-since she’s tried several times to make it from scratch and was met by funny faces who didn’t eat.

Lesson learned.

I’ll gear up on their favorite 9 grain bread.  Already have lots of peanut butter.  I’ll take a hint from True Foods and serve it with sliced bananas and sliced strawberries.  They ate down every morsel along with their carrot and zucchini sticks.  I’ll add some ranch for a safety net.

The boys love baked chicken, salmon, eggs and steak.  My only problem as I see it is that I will not feel “safe” using the grill with people shorter than me as dinner partners-so as much as I hate the idea, I’ll be doing some of this food on my indoor griddle/grill.  Also, any other  pasta dishes will be met with eager appetites-unless I try tofu again.

sigh. They only tried it while I was visiting them because they were promised an ice cream cone if they swallowed.  They did-their faces made me grimace though.

Fruits-no worries on that score.  We will have grapes, strawberries, bananas and even some melon.  I know they love it all.  And one half of the tag team can only ingest a little bit or we won’t be getting out the door for trips to the park.

I bought them a wading pool too.  Nothing says fun like a backyard picnic, bubbles and splashing in the water.

Our daughter-in-law will hopefully be able to join me for a couple of afternoons.  Our son will be on the same business trip as my husband-so it will be just us women, the kids and furkids.

And now-I’m going to go hunt up that “kids first cookbook” from my pre-school/day care days and search up some dishes that they can help me whip up as well.  After all, I bought those nifty name tags-this way I can use a couple of more for “Junior Chef” as well.
