Girl getaways are the hot new ticket in travel-industry trends.  Whether it’s a bachelorette party, mom-daughter spa/shopping weekend or college pals having a slumber party in a hotel room for martinis and catch-up conversation, girl getaway trips are ever so popular.

Experts say that all U.S. women (young, old, single, married, divorced, widowed, mothers, daughters and sisters) have become a driving force in the travel industry taking 32 million trips last year. While statistics are limited, an estimated 32 million single American women traveled at least once in the last year, and about three in 10 took five or more trips, according to the Travel Industry Association.

What’s Fueling This Travel Niche?

  • More women are working and have disposable income.
  • Baby boomers tend to be more physically active and adventurous than previous generations.
  • Pop culture promotes girl-bonding, from the best-selling Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood to TV’s Desperate Housewives. And real-life women don’t feel guilty about taking a break from kids, husbands and responsibilities for pampering and R&R with pals.*

Why Girl Getaways?

Website "I'm in!" conducted research to find:

  • More than 20 million women take at least one getaway trip each year
  • They spend an average of $791 per person, per trip
  • Majority of trips are within 3 hours of their homes
  • Most trips are over a weekend (2-3 days)

LA-Based Impulse Research surveyed 1,500 women and found:

  • Nearly 50% had taken an all-female trip in the past three years
  • 88% had plans for another trip or would like to go on a no-men-allowed getaway.
