I see these window boxes at the local garden center and I think, “Oh, they would look so pretty hanging under the front windows“. So I tell my husband to load em’ up.

I ask one of the nice ladies at the center to help me pick out some flowers for my new boxes, since my green thumb is actually brown.

We pile up the cart and $200 later I’m excited about getting my new window boxes in place and show off my beautiful flowers.

My hubby hangs the boxes and I carefully put in the recommended soil and the beautiful new flowers. Oh, how pretty.

A week later...oh, how ugly. My flowers are dying. I’m feeling a little frustrated but still determined to enjoy my window boxes. I go get more flowers and put them in; they die. I get more flowers...well, you can see where this is going.

So, it’s Spring again and I’m recharged and ready to take on the window box challenge. I’m half way there...one plant is hanging in there (barely) and the other...well not so good.

Who can save me from this window box struggle? At this point I’m ready to put fake flowers in. My husband has kind of discouraged me from doing that, which is probably a good thing.

Any suggestions?

    • Back for an update. I have been picking the full sun flowers. The boxes have the straw type bedding that does allow drainage.

I think I may be on to something. The flowers I have in now have been in for about a week and they are still alive. Whoohoo. It’s going to be really hot the next several days so I’ll have to make sure I water them.
