Like any "new" mom, I've been kind of neglecting my looks lately.

After 9 long weeks I finally made the time to get myself a haircut. I also got my said mop colored a nice shade of "Truffle".

I really needed it. My hair is curly and anyone with a short cut will tell you that you look like quite the site if you wait that long to get a trim. Plus I realized I'm a whole lot grayer that I had imagined after not having the time to color my locks in over 3 months.

Since taking over parenting duties, I have no right shoulder and my hands have "had it", plus I no longer have a shower that qualifies as "okay" to mess up and color my hair in. So off I went with my favorite color in hand and told my husband he could watch the boys for a few hours. My plans were to get that pixie cut that doesn't need much effort put into it.

I came home with said cut and color 2-1/2 hours later. My husband asked why I "did that" to my head. Our daughter noticed it over the webcam later. Our son joined his fiancé, nephews and parents for dinner and asked why I cut it so short.

My answer: HAVE ANY OF YOU NOTICED THAT I AM WEARING THUMB BRACES TO BED AND CAN'T HOLD A D—-N HAIRDRYER LATELY????

Suddenly everyone was complimenting me on how cute I looked and telling me that I was so lucky to be able to get by with such a short look. "It's not just anyone who can pull off that look."

I'm also cranky because I'm about to have yet another birthday. Birthdays make me cranky. I don't know why-but they do.
I'm also cranky because my schedule is getting more and more filled with things to do that have nothing which includes what I need to pay attention too. So I'm simplifying as much as possible.

This has been quite a hard month in so many ways.

I've gone 9 weeks without a haircut before and I've gone 3 months without dying my hair lots of times. Obviously I've had plenty of birthdays prior to this one.

Not sure why I feel that this haircut and dye job was so important or why this particular birthday has me feeling cross. My best guess is that I'm realizing that no matter what I think and feel-times change as much as I do and not all of it is "pretty".

    • That is so true about it all not being pretty. I look at my hair and wonder when I am going to cut it to an appropriate length for my age (just the sound of those words makes me wanna go eeeeewwwwww).

On the flip side as we age we can just play off being crazy and telling people we do what we do just because we can! And then get all twitchy and winky and jerky. I’m sure we will never be bothered again with such silly questions as Why?

BTW I am pms-ing and I am super cranky so my fam better watch out!

    • You look great with your new hair cut and It’s true, not many people can get away with a short cut. I am the same way when my birthdays roll around, I decide what new hair cut and color I want, I don’t know, I just get that way. I don’t know If It has anything to do with age or just because I get bored with the same look all the time, but this month I am turning 45 and I am trying to find a haircut and color that will look good on me.

If your new haircut makes you feel good and you like It, thats all that matters, after all, your the one whos going to be stuck with It until the next time you decide to change. If I could get away with a short cut, I am pretty sure I would do It so It could make getting ready so much easyer..lol

    • I cut my curls off this week....and everyone at work LOVED IT. And I colored it too as well. My very good friend Marcie...hated it and told me so...but she has never liked my hair short...and I didn’t expect her to like it to begin with.

I would wear my hair very short..a pixie hair cut if my face were thinner. You know we all get very busy but you still have to take out some time on a regular basis just to pamper yourself.....give yourself some time. When you feel good about “you“...then you feel better about others and just about LIFE IN GENERAL...it’s a proven fact.

    • Carine, I’ve seen you in person and I think you‘re downright cute! You have an adorable smile, you sparkle when you walk into a room - you‘re a delight to be around. I know it’s been tough this year with the RA, dealing with contractors, topsy turvy family stuff. I hope you have very very special plans for your birthday! You deserve it.
