It never fails to surprise me how caught up we can get in our own little land of Oz. We get so distracted by the mundane crap that at some point “seems” relevant. Life is going on all around us and we tend to give precious time to things that won’t matter. Why is that?
Today, quite unexpectedly we talked with a gal who happened to be our waitress at a favorite Sunday restaurant. Today was no different than others for the most part. She took our order and served the food and freshened the coffee, just like always.
What was different was we took a moment to ask her how she was doing. We engaged her in some friendly banter back and forth. At some point relevant information came up regarding how her life had nearly been cut short by an anuerism, several years back. She said the doctors had considered her a miracle to survive.
In that moment, reality of life came rushing in to us about how happy we were that she was standing there speaking with us.About how happy we were to know that she was alive and well.
My question to her was ultimately, “how has it changed you ?” Her answer, rather matter of factly, “live every day and don’t worry about stuff that has no importance.”
So all you folks out there, if you are reading this, I thank you. My hope for you is to live EVERYDAY. Have a simple conversation with someone and see how tremendously it can affect you.
WOW what a revelation!!!! I guess we really don’t take the time to realize that there is a world going on around us. I too get caught up in this. As a whole I think we don’t see others as having a life, the waitress for example. I know I try to live everyday as if it were my first and last; also my mom said something to me very long ago that I will always remember ” DON‘T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF”
I hope you have a very wonderful day and just reading this has made my day a little brighter.
