As we embark on March, which is “National Nutrition Month“, there’s an extra special reason to focus on making eating changes - regardless of the how large or small.  

Since nighttime is typically a time where people overeat in an effort to de-stress from their day, I rely on 5 simple rules for eating night caps:

1) Just like during the day, keep mighttime snacks to 150 calories or less.
2) Do not eat anything out of bag, jar or carton directly, always portion out snacks into a bowl, plate or mug (the recepticle doesn’t matter - but the portion does!)
3) Drink a cup or two of green tea every night (after dinner) to signify the end of your eating day. This really works!
4) Leave the multi-tasking to non-food activities: Only eat when you are eating - don’t allow you attention to be taken away from the act of eating to avoid “eating amnesia“, which leads to overeating.
5) Cap off the night with a review of your eating journal and reward your positive changes in a non-food way, such as booking a trip in advance, calling a friend, give yourself a manicure/pedicure, or sit in a warm bubble bath.
