Want to look younger? [Link Removed] suggests gaining a few pounds.

"Don't be too thin!" the age-defying supermodel told [Link Removed] "It is always better to have a little meat on your bones. When you are just muscle, you end up being gaunt in the face, and that makes you look older by five or 10 years."

Individuals with a little more body fat tend to look younger, says [Link Removed]

“There’s an old expression: your fanny or your face,” Day said. “You may have to put on a little weight where you don’t want it to have a more youthful looking face.”

When people gain and lose weight repeatedly, it affects the skin of the face, Day said. And yo-yo dieting, she said, is the worst possible thing a person can do (after sun exposure) in terms of erasing a youthful glow.

"Indeed, she is correct," [Link Removed] dermatologist Macrene Alexiades said. "When you do this, the weight gain fills the creases and lines on the face. If you take note, overweight women often have full faces without a single wrinkle."

However, she notes, it certainly doesn’t pay to pack on the pounds for a youthful face, because being thin has benefits, too. “If one keeps their weight steady and stays thin throughout one’s life, this increases life span,” Alexiades said.

[Link Removed] author of "Aging Backwards: Secrets to Staying Young" recommends staying at the top range of the recommended weight range for her age and height.  She credits this for keeping her face from looking gaunt.

Genetics is one reason why women’s faces lose the slightly full, plump look, she said.  Most women hit their mid-40s before their faces start to look quite thin.

And yes, it happens earlier in smokers and those who habitually tan, Silver said.

How much weight would you need to keep on in order to have a youthful face? Five to 7 pounds is all it takes, Silver said.

"But you must also work out on a regular basis," she warned. "And it has to be the right type of workout. Then you will [Link Removed] too."

Young-looking Klum said she doesn’t fear aging.

"I don't have anxiety about it, so I'm not running to get [Link Removed] she told Self. "Maybe that will change, but I don't think so. I feel comfortable in my skin and comfortable with aging, so I think it's okay that I get wrinkles."
